GRIZZLY 2002
#1
I was going to buy a new Grizz but after all that I have read about the gas problems I don't know now.I am very leary & does this problem exist with the Kokiak ?All in all I need some advice should I consider another bike or is the Grizz 2002 worth the problems.I will use it on the farm & for pulling a sled for ice fishing. Not really used in mud or trail riding.

No problems with the Kodiak like the Grizzly has. Yamaha supposedly took care of the waterpump problem on the Kodiak last year, but they are still going out left and right. I've seen more than average waterpump failures on the Raptor too.
I wouldn't recommend the '02 Grizzly to anyone until Yamaha issues a recall to fix all the problems. Let's hope they fix them before the '03 gets here.

I just would like to ask one thing... If the Grizzly is such a POS how come I haven't had the first problem with mine? This is the best ATV I've had or ridin'. Of all the Grizzlies out there with problems I would like to know what the date on the Certifiacate of Origin is?
I don't blame people who come to this forum for being leary of the Grizzly, but I really can't understand all the negative coments about the Grizz. Maybe I just happened to by the only Grizz worth a darn. Either that or the ones doing the bashing don't even have one and are just pulling quotes from some publication they read.
Oh well if people stop buying them then my silver Grizzly really will be limited addition.

Whoa guys, I'm not saying that the Grizzly is a POS. I am just stating that I wouldn't recommend one till they get the bugs worked out on it.
And no, not all Grizzly 660s have had problems, but there alot more that have than hadn't. The problem would be solved if Yamaha just did an inspection recall on them.
I just wouldn't have the patience, as an owner, to listen to Yamaha's PR bull everytime something went wrong with it. I listen to enough of their crap everyday trying to get them to understand these problems and having them fixed, so I couldn't imagine the trouble I would have with them if I actually owned one. In my opinion, they are best in the class performance wise, but alot of them are having more problems than usual for a "first year" model.
My decision on not recommending one to anybody may have sounded a little stronger than what it was intended to sound.
Sorry if I scared you Mike. It's not a POS. Just keep in mind that you MIGHT experience problems on it and prepare to deal with alot of red tape with Yamaha on these problems.

Thanks for clearing that up Sir Knowsalot, and I'm sorry if I sounded a little harsh. I just get tired of all the negativity. I'm not saying all Grizzlies are perfect but I just find it hard to believe that there are that many bad ones either. I would still like to know the dates on the Certificate of Originis though maybe they were some of the first off the lines that people are having all problems with mine is dated 9-11-01 what a day that was.
God Bless America and all of us who live in this great country and pray for all that parished on that horid day and all who were left without a loved one because of that horrible event.

I don't know what the date is on mine, but I bought it like the 10th of July or sometime around that. No problems. No boiling gas or any of that. I would reccomend it, but not over another quad because that is basically a preference issue for someone to decide themselves.

I realize that you are not slamming the grizz. My grizz I purchased on July 2, and haven't had any problems, other than self induced. Although mine does have the prob with the front left shaft having excess play. If there was a majority of grizz's that have probs(like you posted), then there would have been a recall. I don't know where you get your info, but please don't post stuff like"And no, not all Grizzly 660s have had problems, but there alot more that have than hadn't. The problem would be solved if Yamaha just did an inspection recall on them." unless you have sufficient statistics to back up your thoughts. Remember that the few people in the forum's don't constitute all of Yamaha's sales, not to mention the fact that some of the grizz owners could be "cyber owners", if you catch my drift. There are people that may give some info received on a web forum too much credit for being true. Personally I would recommend a grizz to anyone considering that type of atv, but again this is something you have to be on your own and just make your own opinion.

ALL of the problems I have mentioned on seen on this board HAVE been through our shop. And the fact that it happens on more than not is based on that we have also gotten these from customers who have bought their Grizzlys elsewhere. It's bad when you are fixing more Grizzlys than what you sold for the entire year.
As far as the statement of "if it was that bad Yamaha WOULD issue a recall". Not in a million years would that ever happen. Yamaha's "unofficial" policy is to fix it as it breaks. And if you want to argue that statement, then go ask any MULTI line dealer that also carries Yamaha.
No. I'm not hell raising this time mod.

I took the Grizzly through the paces yet again this sunday. Traveled a total of 31 miles in central VA. Went throug creeks, swamps, light lines, ravines and gullies, and on and on and on. And I'm happy to say the Grizzly was flawless.
The afore mentioned "swamp" was a mud/water hole that was about 45 yards long a very rutted. Really fun hole. A good 15 yards wide and straight as an arrow. Never spit or sputtered, and I had the stock tires on her and went thruogh it with ease(didn't need DIFF LOCK), although with some muddin' tires I probably could have crawled through that monster. Still in search of DIFF LOCK country though hope to find it soon. I will keep you all posted.
285 miles, 40hrs and still no problems.
