raptor, the next level?

2001 raptor:
pro-design air, jet kit,gyrt slip-on .
the quad is blavk and white so i know it has the ***** to start with. My question is should i just drop in a high comp piston and a new cam, or go the 686 route?
can my local mechanic that appears to do quaility work get the job done. This would be his 1st big raptor job. He is not afraid to do it, has a shop manual.
if i go a drop-in piston and cam, what can i expect for power over what i have? Any downsides? should i buy the cam outright and keep mine?

Hay 14,
Just stop by to say hello and merry christmas.
I have to check the map see how far we're apart, like to take a couple laps on that track of yours, High comp. piston with cam would make a difference, hows the reliability of the 686 kit.
Long as you don't have to bore the cases, your machanic could probably handle it

If he is a good mechanic, it shouldn't be that hard. The only machine work you are talking about is boring out the cylinder. The rest is just nut and bolt stuff. If he has worked on 4 strokes before, that will go easy. Are you going to get the head ported and polished? You didn't mention that. That may be a different story. That should be left to someone with experience on that particular engine combo (i.e. Trinity). At least that is my experience from everything I have heard for quads, bikes, cars, or whatever.

you might be able to get away with just some basic work, but you should get the head polished and ported if you go with a cam/piston combo. also depending on which cam you get valve springs might be necessary. the cam you choose will also make a big difference, I have the webcam 696/697 racing cam, this cam has a 270 degree duration which actually decreases your low end but gives good mid to high end, a more "mid-range" cam (260 degree duration) may give you more of the performance you want. most people dont push the top end on a raptor
