I was wondering what you Yamaha owners think of your Dunlop tires? I just Bought a 2002 Arctic Cat 500i auto that came with dunlop 25x11x12 KT127a tires in the rear & 25x9x12 KT123 tires up front.I noticed that most of the yamaha ATV's have Dunlop tires. How are they with puncture resistance? How are they in the mud & snow. Your comments would be appreciated.

Speaking for my experiance so for they are really crappy. whith in a week of receiving the machine i had two flats and after that 2 more one not cause of tire quality . since then it has been okay . but that is just my oppinion.

CrazyCat~

They are junk. If I'm not mistaken, I think they're 2 ply. "Flats waiting to happen". The tread leaves quite a bit to be desired as well. I have to say, though, that they performed a heck of a lot better on my wifes '02 Kodiak then they did on my Grizzly. These are my first Yamaha's, so I thought it was just a Yamaha deal with the Dunlops as OEM tires. But then I noticed Arctic Cat dropped the Titan 489's and went with the Dunlops too. I couldn't believe it. I think Poloris now has the best OEM tires on their quads...goodyears I believe.

Thanks everyone for your replies so far. I am Leaning towards getting ITP 589 M/S's 26x12x12 rear and 26x9x12 front. Does anyone have any experiances with the 589's?

FLATS with stock Dunlop tires??? What are you guys riding through, spike strips or construction yards covered with nails. The Dunlops on my Shee may not get the holeshot against more expensive tires but I have ran over all kinds of rocks, dull and sharp and have never had a problem. Of course when they wear out I will get a better tire so I have better traction than stock.

My Kodiak has had the same set of stock Dunlops since I bought it 2 years and about 1200 miles ago. They don't get the best traction due to the tread pattern and size, but they've been durable and are wearing normally with no flats at all. A couple of them seem to lose air slowly but I have some dings in the rims that may cause the air loss. Almost ready to get a new set but I don't know what kind yet-I might agree with Vmax and get the same exact tires.

Our 2001 Recon also has smaller Goodyears on it and they seem to be good for a 2wd machine-only have a few hundred miles on it though.

Sorry to disagree with some guys, but I can't justify buying a $5000 to $6000 ATV and then turning around and buying several hundred dollars worth of new tires/wheels right off the bat. You can call me stupid, but I'd rather spend my hard earned limited $$ on things like a new winch instead of 4 hunks of overpriced rubber that will wear out long before the quad does. If the stock tires get me stuck occasionally, I can use the winch to pull myself out...and I'll still have the winch long after the stock tires are replaced! the stock tires that come on the 99 grizz and 01 kodiak are the worst ive ever had. they never hold air and have no traction.

HillHound, I agree with about Spending $300.00 to $400.00 on new tires when I just Paid $6,500.00 for a new quad. What I plan on doing is selling the stock tires I should be able to get between $200 to $230 for them since i only have about 45 min. run time on them.I do have a winch but I rather not get stuck in the first place or worse get a flat out on the trails. So to me the $100.00 to $150.00 difference I might pay is well worth it.I hope that the manufacturers read these forums! So they know what we think about these junk tires they are putting on these ATV's.
