Blaster won't start in cold weather
#1
I have a 2000 blaster that is a nightmare to start when it's cold outside. The enging is completely stock. Stock pipe W/Bill's Silencer. It has a UNI air filter, stock jetting. I had an NGK B8ES plug in it that was soaked when I pulled it out. I cleaned it up with my Dremel and it still would not start. I bought a B7ES plug and I had to kick the crap out of it, but it started. Once it warms up it's easy to start. If it's cold it's easier to catch it in gear. I run 93 octane fuel with Klotz Techniplate oil at 32:1. Is the oil geling or freezing? I can't figure it out. I have around 135 psi compression and good spark. The fuel just won't light. Any ideas?

Try switching back to regular fuel as opposed to the 93 octane. I've got 93 octane in my Raptor right now, and thank goodness for electric start! I must have held the button for 30-45 seconds. My next tank will be 87 octane. High octane is harder to ignite, which is why it is recommended to cure detonation problems. I read an article about this somewhere, I forget if it was in a magazine or on the web.

cold air makes the jetting leaner, so if it ran good when it was hot, then my only guese can be its lean, and from kicking and kicking it you got it flooded? also when you are starting it, dont give it any gas with the throttle.
first try putting your stock air filter back on. that is a no money fix if it works.
and if you think its rich, take your airfilter off and try starting it when its cold.

i would also recommend buying the matching bills pipe and jetting accordingly. when i bought my banshee used, it came with only dg silencers and a k&n air filter. stock jetting. that setup was so sh*tty. it never would start, id have to catch it in gear every single time. it was in the shop all the time getting tuned. finally i said the hell with that and bought toomey pipes and silencers and jetted it right and now it starts when ever i kick it.
