Ordered the tranny parts from Craycraft. . . About $525 delivered (paying through Paypal.)
I'll let you know what my builder charges for labor when we are done with it. I ended up taking the engine out for my buddy last Saturday. Plan on getting it back in on the 3rd/4th of Jan.

Hey King and Dune, I've been thinking of may just getting myslef an 01 Raptor- because I really don't ride taht hard. How hard do you guy ride? I do your average sport riding, some motocross- attacking little jumps etc..........

Duneme, I am sort of in same boat. My '01 Raptor & tranny are still holding up but I am a weekend or two away from total teardown with new '02 tranny, new rod, one-way & maybe some other goodies.
Gonna get my riding buddy Mike from raptortranny to sponsor the tear down, right bud!? Regarding the rod replacement, Tim barker @ barkersbars makes a chromoly rod for $175 & a titanium rod for $495. He can press em together as well for another $75. Other than Tim's rods, I've seen the Carrillo rod go for around $175 & up.
Jon, maybe you going to ride with us this year? I was planning on signing up for Tower city so maybe we'll see you there?
Alien, exhaust stud breaking, hmmm, been there done that, had two break, put in 8mm grizzlies, sucks bigtime for a stupid stud but a good time to upgrade the engine!
Overall, I would have to agree with most that whether it be an '01 model or later, the Raptor is high maintenance but you can get a lot of power & fun out of it. Do you guys remember the 250r guys who complained about the high maintainence but still love to ride it & win races with it?

Wow. . . here's an old one. . .
In case you wonder why there are so many people waiting to buy next year's Raptor 700. . . .
Let's just say, last time they bought a first year bike with the name Raptor, things didn't work out that well.
An update. . . my buddy is still running this (02) tranny. The Billet one he got from Sam Coe didn't last long at all.
I think he's about ready to upgrade and really wants the new Raptor but, NO WAY is he getting the first model year again. Poor guy really needs a new bike, that old Raptor just wants to fall apart on him. He will be keeping the new one mostly stock.
The Wife also wants the new Raptor but, I'm preaching the same words. . . next model year. She's got a 2002 or 2003 model (can't remember which) and I don't want to risk issues by getting the first model year. . . doesn't sound like there are issues but, I've seen too much carnage from first year Raptor's first hand.
