WHat do you mean "unfortunate that the CPSC is no in on this"? Do you mean that no-one should step in and try too rectify this situation before someone gets killed riding a faulty tranny?? The CPSC should be looking into situations like this instead of radical thoughts of banning all atv's.

No- I don't mean that at all, that no one should step in to help out. Unfortunate I say because it was theCPSC that was all our undoing int the latter part of the 80's and we have them to thank that ATVing has not been a very interesting avenue again until recently. And unfortunate because Yamaha would not help out customers right off the bat and since the CPSC had to get involved- more ammunition has fortified their arsenal to take pot shots at us ATVers.........

How much have you guys paid for the parts for an '02 tranny?

How much should he expect for labor?

Any figures on the Carillo Connecting Rod?

dune me: i think i paid 180-200 for my rod and the trans i got from alba. 700 for the trans that has all new stuff like head, case gasket set. the guy that is doing motor will split the case for 500. i think that is u bring the bike and it runs when u pick it up. 700+500=hurts to sit down!

That $700 for the tranny sounds high. Craycraft told me about $420 for the '02 set (including gaskets, etc.) Am I missing something?

What does your shop guy charge per hour for labor? Looking like we are going to use our guy to do the work. I'll pull the engine out and put it back in (that isn't too tough and would rather save my buddy the $100 in labor to do that work for him.

I am trying to talk him into the new rod and the 727 at the same time. I just figure you are in there you might as well do it! Only bummer is I think he should go with the FCR's after doing this work and that is a big $$OUCH$$.

He'll probably call tonight to figure things out.

Junky. . . when are you going to be ready to run that beast! I wanna race

I see all the guys saying how bad 01 Raptors are and I've gotta say my '01 is holding up fine. The starter oneway did go south on me but the trans is holding strong. I run a 58HP 686 and the rod and tranny have held up just fine. I do plan to trade out my 01 trans and my stock rod for a carrillo this tax refund season. Pretty much based on all the negative words I've read here and other places. I figure it's cheaper to do it and bore the cases for a 727 than to have it grenade and destroy my cases.

The guy from the cpsc called last night
about the complait I file with them on
the Raptor tranny problem he's coming over
tonight to take pic's of the bike and get
a copy of the repair bill he also told me
only 4 other guys filed from so. cal.(whats up )
they are going to try to make yamaha recall
all 01's and have them get the 02 upgrade these guys
are hot on it so if your tranny has failed
file with the consumer product safety commission
1-800-683-2772 or do a search and find the post
that has the website there WILL BE A RECALL if
there is alot of complaits they think yamaha
is covering this thing up now is the time to act
or save your money so when your tranny go's
you can give yamaha MORE MONEY!!!!!!!
Finally the CPSC is fulfilling their original mission: protecting the consumers from manufacturing defects and not getting up our butts with emotional, overhyped, riduculous claims about atvs being 'the devil.' HOWEVER, I agree with the other person on here - these were the guys that brought the market to all but a halt (ironically we can thank yamaha for it not totally going down the toilet) in the late 80's early 90's. Be warned, though, they still are keeping a very close (too close) of an eye on ATV issues. If you dont believe me, search their website. There is 10x more anti atv stuff on there than any other product. My push is that I dont think the CPSC is capable of soley regulating ATV issues. CARS, boats, motorcycles are NOT solely regulated by the CPSC. The CPSC merely coordinates recall efforts to fix things in these matters. All these products are regulated by the DOT. Seems like if something has a motor, the CPSC just doesnt understand it and goes nuts when something happens and over corrects things to the tune of shutting it down.

But if the CPSC really wants to help- this is their rightful place; i applaud them on this effort. They were never created to push politcal agendas favoring enviromentalist or anti-whatever (atvs in this case) activists' agendas. I hope this guy gets yamaha to fix these tings right so that the customers arent screwed over and maybe some repect may be found for the CPSC....Then again, maybe not!
