Doesnt the duration of the cams have something to do with the octane needed also. The higher the duration the more octane needed right?

Moose: VP fuels: there are a lot of them but the most common for quads is VP Red which is 105. C12 is 108, C14 is 114. One of my son's 350X's runs a custom 14.3:1 piston so I bought a couple of gallons of C14 to try it. C14 is recommended for above 14:1 compression and/or above 8500 rpms (for cooling). No appreciable change in power from the 108 was noticed, but my fuel petcock started leaking. I swapped tanks three times and tried 4 different valves before I figured out it was maybe the fuel. (slow learner) I then cut the C14 with Sunoco 94 50/50 and the leaking stopped. The other 350X my son has is 12.5:1, and it ran better on the lower Octane mix. You could hear the difference in the exhaust note. C 12 is recommended for up to 14:1

Motor Octanes of some VP Race gas recommended for motorcyle engines:

VP Red: 105 (under 12.5:1 either 2 or 4 stroke)
VP 110: 107 (up to 13.5:1 often used for oval track and drag)
C11: 104 (usually usde for oval track restrictor plate racing)
C12: 108 (up to 14:1 ratio, and a common race fuel for all comp.)
C14: 114 (above 14:1. and above 8500 rpm - 4 stroke naturally aspirated)
MR1: 90 (used in motors that can use pump premiums)
MRX01: 98 (used as above but for higher compression engines)
MR2: 102 (2 stroke application)
MR8: 112 special high rpm comp. fuel

velocityraptor, How would you drive a supercharger? Cars use drive belts but I can't see how you would hook up a supercharger. Or did you mean turbocharger?

vilnrk, How Did the "test" go?

hckycoach, I didn't know there was that many diffrent kinds of fuel.

HCKYCOACH IS RIGHT ON ABOUT THE HIGH / LOW OCTANE FUEL
WHEN WE TESTED THE SMALL BLOCK CHEVY ENGINES ( 2 ENGINES )ON THE DYNO (ENGINE DYNO NOT A CHASSIS DYNO)
BOTH ENGINES WERE THE SAME EXCEPT FOR COMPRESSION RATIO
ONE ENGINE AT 11.5 TO ONE LIKE LOW OCT. FUEL MAX 102 OCT MORE HIGHER THE OCT LESS POWER ;RPM SLOWER
THE OTHER ENGINE HAS 15.25 TO ONE LIKE 110 STARTED TO MAKE SOME POWER WHEN RUN ON 114 OCT IT CAME ALIVE HP UP RPM REAL FAST
BEST GUESS LOWER COMP. LOWER OCT
HIGHER OCT MORE COMP NEEDED
HIGHER OCT FUEL BURNS SLOWER TAKES MORE COMPRESSION TO GET THE FUEL TO POP

IT WAS DONE ON A WINPEP DYNOJET DYNO-(ATV DYNO.) IVE REDONE MY MACHINE SINCE THEN! (REFER TO MESSAGE TEXT). I WASNT REAL HAPPY WITH MY BILLS PIPE, IT DIDNT HELP ANY ON THE TOP END OF MY POWER BAND, & THATS WHERE THE RAPTOR LACKS THE MOST.THE CT SONIC EXHAUST MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE, ABOUT A 4.8hp DIFFERENCE TO BE EXACT.

SYKO-I DONT SEE WHY YOUR HP RATING SHOULDNT BE KNOCKING DOORS AT 60 PONNIES, ESPECIALLY @ 13-1 COMPRESSION. I WOULD TOTALY UPGRADE YOUR PIPE SYSTEM, MY CHOICE WOULD BE A CT SONIC OR A GRAYDON PROLINE. TRUST ME THAT WILL MAKE A TOTAL DIFFERENCE. I HAVE SIMILAR SET UP TO YOURS IF YOU LOOK AT MY TEXT MESSAGE, AND MY DYNO READINGS WERE OUTSTANDING! THE SHOP THAT BUILT MY QUAD DYNOED MY MACHINE AT 64.8hps ON A MOTORCYCLE DYNO, (THEY REMOVE ONE WHEEL & DYNO IT THAT WAY) ANYWAYS I WANTED A SECOND OPNION SO I TOOK MY MACHINE TO ANOTHER SHOP IN TOWN WHO HAVE A WINPEP DYNOJET ATV DYNO MACHINE AND THEY DYNOED MY MACHINE AT 61.2hps. SOON I WILL BE POSTING MY BEFORE AND AFTER DYNO CHARTS. P.S. MY RAPYOR DYNOED OUT WHEN IT WAS STOCK AT 32.8hps.
