I live about 4 hours from canada, and have heard story's of getting quite a good deal by buying in canada. Can someone tell me what exactly you have to go through to accomplish this. What type of laws are there regarding this? Someone just said in the raptor post down below, he got his 2002 raptor for about 5300 out the door us. If this is true, canada here I come. Would I still be able to get a us title, and will I be able to finance, or do I have to pay with cash?

 

I don't know about your end, it will vary from state to state on registering etc.

Check out the manufactures Canadian web sites for financing deals, but I think you'll find that we don't get the good interest rate deals in Canada that you get in the U.S.

My uncle bought a modified Sea-Doo from a dealership in Canada and saved over $1000. They even delivered it to him at the border in Niagara Falls. I am not sure of all of the details, but I know you have to pay duty at the border and then when you register it in New York, you have to pay the New York sales tax. The Canadian sales tax is refunded to you but I am not sure how. I will give him a call and get the rest of the details.
I also know a guy who swears by buying his dirt bikes and snowmobiles from Canada. He won't tell me how much he paid for any of them, he is weird like that, but he states the money he saves is substantial enough to take the time to drive up there, buy it, and deal with customs at the border patrol.

One word of advice: both of these guys either do all of their own mechanical work or know someone who is a pro at it and does it for them. They don't like taking their stuff to the dealerships because they feel they can do a better job.

There was a similar post to this in the Yamaha forum labeled "Just bought an '02 Raptor" where a guy bought a Raptor for I think $5250 American and gave a few more details. I paid $7000 in America but am considering going to Canada for my next purchase - a Yamaha TTR-125 for my wife.

 

When you get to the border(Canadian), request a sales tax refund form. Just fill it out & send in. All the Canadian sales taxes will be refunded.

I saved $1200.00 on my wife's Kodiak. Transaction was a breeze. I don't know about financing, as I paid cash (wired it to the dealer) and yes you can license it down here, at least in Idaho, I just had to pay my state sales tax.

The MAIN item to be aware of is that US dealers do NOT have to provide warrenty service on a Yamaha product you purchase in Canada. If that is an issue, don't do it. If it's not, and you can't find a good local reputable dealer, go for it.

I only did it because the dealer (Kootenia Saw & Cycle) blew me off on a warrenty issue with my 660...and it was a month old, and I paid full MSRP cash to them. I later found an awesome dealer north of me, and had I known about him, I would have bought the Kodiak there, even w/o the kind of savings I got, just because the guy is honest, straight shooting, does service my Canadian Kodiak, and did the warrenty work on my Grizz. Only thing I've bought from him is assesories, and I get 10% off those to boot. My next quad purchases will be through him this spring.

Well, in PA, I know of a few dealerships that will match any price given by another dealer, period. They have to see the ad though. I am in the process of selling my 400ex, so as soon as its gone, Im getting a new quad. Does anyone have the ads to the prices of the dealership? IS there an online website they have that i can obtain the price so i can print it out?
