Restoring a Quad

im looking for a new project. i want to restore a sport quad. im going to try to buy my cousin's 86 warrior. it doesn't run. it needs some carb work. if i do get that. does anyone know if it would be easy to find a carb rebuild kit for one? or would it just be better just to buy a new carb (a bigger one too)? if i cant buy that im looking for any other sport quad for under $800. im guessing i can mabey find a blaster? will a blaster keep up with a 300ex w/DG pipes? if anybody has or knows anyone that will sell me any sport quad, i will also look into that also. just e-mail me at MotoxHB4130@aol.com

If your talking a complete "restoration", pressure wash the whole machine first, especially by the motor, swingarm and A-arms, and any where else where grease may build up. Grab some zip-loc bags and a magic marker and put like fender bolts in one, wheel studs in another, etc, and label all the bags as to what's in them. Also, don't throw nothing away until you have a new part to replace it with. My Zilla is almost done but is still up on saw horses because I haven't gotten new shocks, tires, or rims for the front yet, although I coulda set the old ones back on so it would at least be on the floor. What made things easy for me was cleaning then painting everything I wanted repainted first (frame, A-arms, steering stem, foot pegs, hubs, etc), then setting them off to the side so once I had new parts for them (like bushings and stuff), they where ready to be bolted back onto the frame.
Check some back issues of Dirtwheels, they just restored and modified an older Warrior.
Also, get a repair manual and look through it before you start tearing things apart, then you'll at least have an idea of what to expect, plus you'll also have a good idea of what's located where in the manual if you need to check something real quick............Have fun![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

fasternWHO gave you some good advice, but don't forget to put the bolts back in the stuff you paint. I just sold my 99 warrior for $300, all it needed was a top end job and the tie rod ends I stole off it to put on my raptor. For the carb just get the pieces you need almost everything in there can be cleaned to fix it except the float.
