The FX400... the quad version of the MX400, which, in itself, is directly aimed to take on the YZ400/426F. So, with the introduction of the FX400, does this make the new YZF-quad a moot point? Personally, I like more manufacturers making performance quads. I think this will give Yamaha a kick in the butt to get a move on.

...aluminum perimeter frame...fuel-injected,reverse cylinder,DOHC engine, shocks with remote resivoirs, twin caliper front brakes... this thing is gonna rip!

Yes it is a sweet machine. But remember if yamaha wanted to they could build a better one. Yamaha has more money and experience then Canondale can dream of. I personaly love high perf quads but i think that with all the new machines coming out it is kinda a bad thing. The problems of the 80s are gone but i think all the new quads will make it rear its ugly head again. There are alot of new machines out there (gasgas, Hausberg, canaodale, and the bomb) But look at the cost of them 7000 for the bomb and the hausberg is like 9000 yes they are raising the performance bar alot but they are increasing the price bar alot more. I think in the end they will just end up increasing the bottom line for what we all pay for our quads.

A moot point?

I don't think so, the 400 Cannondale MX'r will fail
in it's quest to knock the YZ-F's off their throne.

So it shall be to form when Yamaha gets off it's
collective duff, and dose to their ATV's what
they have done to their Sportbike and MX lines,
which is offer top of the line all-around Performance at reasonable prices.

Cool thing about the Bomb when a certin rag stuck
it on the Dyno it made 40.75 H.P. net, not the
48 to 54 everybody was claiming, the Banshee makes
39, the 400EX makes 28.

How dose the 400 compete against those numbers?
A broader power curve, much like the YZ-F series
uses, except unlike the 400EX(Great Quad)the YZ-F
series can out rev it's competition(and carry 30+ Horsepower while doing so), in this I speak of the KX500(55 H.P.) and the CR500(56H.P.)but they
die after 9500 R.P.M. even with a 10,500 R.P.M.
aftermarket ignition, the YZ400F is still making
35+ H.P. @11250, so even though it only peaks @
43.5 H.P. its broader power curves make it tough to beat.

I hope like Honda did with the 400EX, Yamaha makes
A top notch Quad at a fair price.

But the Yamaha YZ400/426 requires more upkeep, like more engine rebuilds, than the other 4-strokes. When talking to some guys a Hare Scrambler race, this one was about 25 miles long and lasted 1hr 45min, the guys running the Yamaha 400's were saying that some had to topend rebuild every 3 races. Of course these were all modified & run HARD, so I don't know how a stock one would last. Most ATV'ers don't want to rebuild that often though, since most don't race.

The battle between the MX400 and YZ400/426F has yet to be seen... the Cannondale has a more advanced powerplant and chassis design, with better stock suspension components. Don't count it out yet.

As far as quads go... I don't believe Yamaha makes a high-performance quad that could compete for the 2001 model year, unless, of course, they introduce something new. They have yet to do that...

Oh it dose! TRX

No the 5-Valve Genesis head is as advanced
as any, and what do you base your claims on?
You make several claims baised on propaganda
alone, I make my Statement on the basis of
observation, KTM, Husaberg and other fine
Experenced builders have been chasing the YZ-F/WR
since it first came out, without success.

And now a John come Slowly Mountian bike builder
is going to come along and blow their house down?
with a bike made to chase the 98 400F

As for reliability sorry Quadman, having owned
a YZ400F and currently a 426, I can with fact
say the problems you speak of are not
a concern in Stock condition.

Modified, well any time you do that and RACE
your going to have problems, and the Motor will
Require more maintainence, that is just common sense.

You once said they might use the WR400 motor
so? it still has more H.P. then any other Quad
Engine out there.

You also once told me, a Dyno has nothing to do with Power.

Whatever

Great _____

Didn't the KTM 4-strokes win some "obscure" world championship?!? Also, which bike was it that won the MX National and GNCC title? It wasn't the YZ/WRF machines. Although they were both won by 2-stroke Suzukis, that just proves that they are not the top machine out there (although I AM cheering for Barry Hawk Jr. who rides a Yamaha).

I actually have never seen a direct comparison between the new Katoom thumpers and the YZF. Let alone that of the Cannondale vs. KTM vs. YZF. Neither have you, for that matter!

Also, Cannondale has some awesome engineers working for them, also they have many experienced consultants from the powersports world. Don't be ignorant, they mean big business.

How do you know what I have or have not seen?

As far as Cannondale how would you know anything about them in regards to the Quality of their staff?

F.Y.I. the new Dirt Bike has a feature on the
Husaberg FC501, the one I think has the best chance.

Read IT, if you can

find it at Starbucks

MX, Greg A. Suzuki, should see the SX series
both Vill, and M.C. are trashing him.

In the World SX series he did'nt even get a podium, Vill and 'Fro(who's out of the SX now
with an injury) pulled that out.

Thats just the Start want more I can get it

And you in all youre self-appointed glory seem to
forget Yamaha, KTM, and Husaberg also mean business( and in the Sea of Off-Road MOTORCYCLE
Racing are a much LARGER fish)

Who's the Ignorant one now, Oak Brook T.H.

Y2K
Amigo of Juan V

Why is it I hear, read and see so much praise directed toward the YZ-F/WR series.

Not a Question you could anwser, Alaska/Oak Brook.

Quite full of yourself, aren't you, y2kodiak!

I know about Cannondale's staff because I have talked to them...

First of all, I can read. Second of all, I don't drink coffee, especially from the poster-company of yuppiness. Thirdly, personal attacks get you no-where on a forum, and it just makes you look stupid.

Albee has never been strong in SX. I am talking the outdoors, quit twisting what I post. He is out for the season now anyways with injuries.

That is just the start, eh? Everyone else can read the mags too... no big deal. You are getting off the subject.

Yes, the off-road market is the bulk of the dirt bike sales, most people know that. Still, your point? The original post was comparing the MX400 to the YZ400/426F.

The ignorant one here is you, y2kodiak. You post irrelevant information and attempt to flame me. Doesn't work with pigeon english and bad grammar/sentence structure. lol...

The YZF has been out for a few years, the new KTM and MX have yet to see a season.

Reply if you want, with more personal attacks, but you may not like how I respond...
