By scrambles, do you mean harescrambles? If so, they are a race over a 2-8 mile course through woods. Usually very tight, with some open field and mx sections thrown in, depending on where the race is held. The races are based on time. Local and district races usually are 1 to 1 1/2 hours long, the GNCC races are 2 hours. First guy to complete the most laps first wins. The courses are similar to trail riding through the woods with your buddies, except that the course takes the tightest, nastiest parts that you avoid when you trail ride.
