Warrior Thumb throttle question
#1
Hey all,
I'm a bit new into the world of Quads, so I dont know much about little things you can do to make the quad better suited for you. I have a Yamaha Warrior and my only gripe about it is the thumb throttle. It seems very heavy to push. Usually towards the end of the day, my thumb is so exhausted from pushing it in all the time that it gets fatigued and I have a hard time pushing it in. It also doesn't help that I have a double jointed thumb and it pops out of joint when there is too much pressure (no, there's no pain, and that's a whole different issue in itself).
My question is how do you lighten the thumb throttle to be easier to push? Is there a spring tensioner that I can lighten up to give it a easier push? Or perhaps, of the 400EXs and Raptors that I've ridden that my friends have, can I fab up something from a Raptor thumb throttle to make it easier to manage?
Any help is appreciated.

get use to it, my warrior does the same thing, after awhile you won't notice it, you can change your thumb throttle to a twist or you could add one of the extensions on it where you use the palm of your hand to push it.

Chances are your throttle cable is corroded inside. Mine was when I bought it a couple of years ago due to previous owner lack of maintainance. The hot setup is a new Motion Pro thottle cable. They normally run about $20 or so. You can also unhook the return spring inside the thumb thottle housing on the handlebar. The Warrior has two return springs, one integral to the carb and the other inside the thumb throttle housing. You lose the redundancy of having a backup spring in case one breaks, but how often does that happen?

When working properly, the Warrior has a fairly light thumb throttle. If it's hard to pull and doesn't snap back real quick when you let it go it is probably gunked up in the cable.
If the cable needs lubed or is sticking you really, really don't want to disable the return spring on the thumb side because it may get stuck wide open on ya.
Don't take this the wrong way, but if the cable isn't sticking you probably just need to build up your thumb muscle. Try a Banshee throttle sometime, it's twice as hard to pull.
