Any way what is the first mod you suggestand do you have any advise what to keep an eye out for such as problems or maintenance? Thanks glad to be a part of the Yamaha family!!!!!!!!!!!!

Skid plates before you even take it home.
Maybe a K&N filter and Dynojet kit.
A nice exhust pipe looks good.
Eventually a set of 25" tires.

All I can say is you've got yourself a fun bike!! Just don't do any mods until you've finished the intial 10-20 hours (3 tanks of gas) break-in. After that...it's up to you. Speaking from experience, the FMF Megamax II pipe, with the White Bros. Torque Valve, K&N Filter, and jet kit, really brought my '98 Wolverine to life. With those mods, I could EASILY smoke all the big 500 4x4's out on the trail. The added power of the modifications, and the lighter bike really makes a big difference.

As far as skid plates go, the best ones IMHO are from PRM. They bolt up really easy, and they have nylon lock-nuts, so you don't have to worry about the plate vibrating loose.

Have fun with the new bike!!!

Thanks for the replies! I'm going to get skid plates, as far as the question "did you look at the big bear" I was looking for something sporty with 4x4 ability.I'm sure I will have fun on this bike, this is my first, and when feel I need more power,I'll add some mods.

Please ignore all comments about getting a Big Bear instead of a Wolverine. Full-time 4x4 or not, a WOlverine is WAY sportier than a Big Bear will ever be.
I think you made a good choice, and I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with it.

THUNDERPOWER....why is it that everytime i turn around you always "getting" a new quad...why dont you make up your mind and stick ith it...like 2 months ago you were wanting a banshee,blaster,300ex, 400ex,raptor etc...(ok im not sure it was all those but there was just about all sport quads in production listed under "im getting either"...), and then for the past few weeks its been im gettin a 400ex and now its yamaha big bear 400...whats w/ you....

ps..im not trying to bash you or start any flames or anything but .....i think you get it

THIS THING IS AWSOME!!!! the wolverine is everything i thought it would be really feels much more sporty than the rancher by far!! I have to say though it does not have the bottom end like the rancher, but that was understood from the begining. It still has lots of power, and of course I hav'nt had it wide open yet until the breakin period is over . I know this is what I was looking for and would recomend it to anyone!!!
