Advice to anyone buying a raptor - GET THE EXTENDED WARRENTY if it will cover these things - transmission parts , broken frame where the thermostat housing bolts to , oil leaking from 1 front shock , cracked oil tank (down the side where the dip stick is) .
These are the faults I have had with my raptor since it has just become a year old.
Problem I had before it was a year old was 2nd gear. As you allready know, if you dont break the dogs (ears) off , it will start jumping in and out of gear , but only in second. This is what mine started doing. At first I thought the chain was too loose, but after tighting it up to the point where there was no slack when I sat on the bike, I realized there was a problem. I looked to see if there were teeth missing from the sprockets , they were fine. Thats when I noticed the jumping in and out was only in second gear under very hard acceleration. So instead of putting the yamaha gears back in it , I spent the 430 dollars and bought the fortin billet 2nd gear set(sam coe performance). I should have gone ahead and got the 3rd gear set too , but 730 dollars for 2nd and 3rd is a little more than I care to spend for gears.
I still have my stock 2nd gear set. They are not broke or chipped at all. There is wear on the dogs , You can see where the gears were rubbing against one another instead of staying engaged.
I think there must have been some kind of design flaw?????
I still love riding my raptor. I will contine to fix things as they may break, thats just part of having a large torque monster engine

go to the blue-trax forum (Raptor/Warrior) & look for BCRAPTORs post "Yamaha paid for my 01 to 02 trans conversion parts only" he has to pay for the labor but thats still better than putting the weaker gears back in. It would be worth your time to see how he got Yamaha to do this. If your still under warranty they should pay labor also. Good luck!

why did you have the clutch kit put in it can't be that hard
i have an extened warranty and to be honest with you i thougt it was the tranny..the bike would not engage into any gear..that is the only reason why i brought it in. warranty didn't cover it because clutches are considered "normal wear and tear".
whatever .........................
