I havent heard of any trans problems with the 02's. Yamaha beefed up the gears & changed the gear ratios.
I've had my 02 since OCT & have had no problems.

I just got my tranny apart,(2nd time gears went, same problem, no dogs on 2nd gear) and looking at all the gears with dogs, I see that all the dogs are attached directly to the gears...Now, as i look at my 2nd gear (missing all dogs) i realize why they all snapped off...There is a stupid flange that the dogs attach to, the metal there is only a few thousands of an inch thick, this is why the dogs break off the 2nd gear so easily, i'm just going to buy the billet gears (780.00 for 4th and 2nd, and $65 for shiftfork) it is expensive opposed to the stock gears again...there only like $65, and $80. but i don't want my crank to be nicked with any more dogs floating around in there. also, i want to have a RELIABLE quad.

i had the same problem with the tranny. took it to the dealer they call me to go pick it up. so i get thier im looking at it now it has a coolant leak, oil leak, the motor makes all kinds of noise so i ask the manager what was making all that noise he says that they adjusted the valves loose for better break in. them i check the oil and its about 1 qt low. so he tells me to leave it so he can check it later. i think they are full of s%%t.

What I don't understand is everyone knows the tranny is an issue on the 2001 Raptor. Why didn't you get the extended warranty. Mine hasn't gone yet, but when it does it will be covered.

CCRERaptor that does it for me, the noise you described now makes perfect sense to me. Last weekend I heard this chain slipping noise and knew that I adjusted it before I left the house. Now you have me scared that mine will soon go out as well. Questioms: Is Sam Coe's gears a kit?; If not what all will I need to replace all the bad tranny parts?; Should I go ahead and do it or wait till something happens? Monday I am going to call my dealer, who I know won't do anything because they suck, but I need to gripe at someone. How hard is it to replaace the gears, I have never been into a tranny before.
