I have a Raptor and Two Polaris Scramblers and my Dad always tells me that he wouldn't want any of them unless he could weld some racks on them.
He should buy the Grizzly 660 or a Sportsman 700 twin. Take the shocks off your Dale and send them into Ohlins and have them beefed up, rezzy's perhaps too and have your Dad jump that when he's feeling randy.

A DS is good dad's ride. My son has a Raptor, I have the DS, it's a big guy's kind of ride. I had a Grizz 660 and sold it. For me the DS is just more fun, and a hell of a lot faster. The Grizz was the only utility we've ever had that could almost keep up with the Raptor and DS, even a Sportsman 500 H.O. is so far behind it's like waiting for your grandmother. I bet a 700 would scoot pretty good, but who wants to try and jump 800 lbs? The new Baja DS-650 has sorted out most of the problems the early DS had, I've fixed all that on mine anyway. I like the Raptor okay, but I much prefer riding my DS.

the new grizzly is one ausome machine, along with other big bore utilitys are. it offers alot of uses for a dad to use other than just trail riding. plowing, grading land, dragging out wildlife that you hunted, and even getting to that hidden fishing hole!
the grizzly seems to jump real nice also. i have put mine in the air once or twice, and it has handled it better that i even hoped for!
i have 7 or 8 pics of me jumping it, if you want to see what it looks like about 6 ft in the air and clearing 24 to 28 ft!

GregV,
You can buy racks for the Scramblers.
Kevin1422,
If your dad wants to play in the mud, then get a Grizz or a Scrambler. The DS is not a machine for the mud. The Baja's Ohutsu's are miles better than the Dominators on the old ones for mud. Those Dominators were useless in mud. Not to mention that if you get the DS you have to lift or pull 460lbs out of the mud. Your Cannondale is only ~380lbs, still a pain in the butt, but more manageable.
If he likes more 'rippin', jumping, and less mud, then go with a Raptor. If he does work with it, and loves mudding, then go with the Grizz.
The Scrambler is also an option, or a Wolverine. I owned a Scram for a couple of years and it would fly through mud holes, leaving the other 2 wheel drive machines behind. It wasn't a great jumper, and a little heavy, but lighter than a full utility quad like the Grizz. (Had an Xplorer too). But I got out of the utility quads, and into the sport quads, because I like ripping around, climbing sand piles and hills, and wheelies.
Tell him to get the quad that suits his style.
