winches?
#11
Tree Farner, I do have the new style switch with the orange rubber boot and the black lower boot. I've only had this winch for about 6 weeks and the switch has failed me 3 times already. Sometimes it will go out but not in or vice versa. I took the switch apart and cleaned the contacts with crocus cloth . It helps for a while but it will fail again. The contacts will pit badly and look burned every time I take it apart. I think it is a poor quality of copper that the contacts are made of. The dealer I talked about had a big sale on Kawasaki bikes with a free winch . Some were sold with the old style switch and some were sold with the new style . He has had both styles returned with the same problems that I've been having. I do plow snow with mine but I dont even lift the blade when I back up to try to prolong the switch life. Another friend of mine had the same problem so he bought a switch made by Cycle Country . It seems to be a better quality switch so if his lasts for a while thats what I'm going to buy.

Rogi, the Tellico test reported numerous problems with the SuperWinch switch. However, the SuperWinch handlebar-mounted rocker switch has been entirely re-designed since the Tellico test you reference.
Do you have any direct information on the reliability and durability of the switch model now in current production?

Thanks for the clarification, sparkys!
I hope you get better service from the Cycle Country replacement switch.
Does the Cycle Country switch have a shunt across the motor terminals when at rest? Some OEM winch switches (including the SuperWinch rocker) have this feature to improve winch braking.
Thanks again for sharing your experience.
