I have a 2001 warrior and i love it. The reason i bought it over a 400 isnt the speed its the reverse. if ya do alot of trail riding i would got with the warrior. Although the 400 ex handles alot better but will cost ya more.

I don't know how long you plan on owning the machine, but I just sold my 87 Warrior that I bought new and beat on for nearly every moment of its life without ever even adjusting the valves, and the new owner picked up right where I left off with absolutely ZERO mechanical issues to date (chain and sprockets and oil changes only). As for the 400EX, my wife bought a 01 model and there really is no comparison performance-wise, but I've seen several of them grenade their engines and constantly going through rear brakes at our local riding areas. Hers even needed the valves adjusted at the 20 hour maintenance checkup already. They don't seem to be up to Honda's usual reliability standards, IMO.

You should get the warrior and then mod it up. I just baut a modded up warrior and it has loads of power. I use to have a blaster but ever since I got a built up warrior Iv'e loved it, and it has way more power then a blaster, even a built up blaster, so you do the math, although if you looking for somthing more tame, then just get a stock warrior and you will be all set.

Get the 400ex. I own a warrior and love it but the 400ex is better. Jumping is better on the 400ex and it handles and has better suspension than the warrior but it doesn't have reverse so thats the only downside.

i don't know about the 400ex but i know that my warrior is pretty reliable. i have flipped it many times and after each time it would start right up and run like new.
