Blaster: Possible Rebuild?????
#1
Well tonight when I got home I went back to look at my blaster and take it for a test ride. It had been sitting for two weeks untouched. I noticed 2 or 3 little spots of oil or something, but it might have been there from something else so I didnt worry about it. So i started it up and it started fine. I let it warm up and then put it into gear and right away it took off and stalled even with the clutch in. It did it the same exact thing again the second time. So the third time I gave it more gas and just took off without it stalling and I stopped about 20 feet from there to see if it did it again but it was fine. So i rode it around the yard just putting. I put it in second and punched the gas but it just bogged down. I thought well maybe it needs warmed up still. So i rode it up a dirt road and tried to get it warmed up and I punched the gas and it bogged down again. I then stopped becuase it was running weird and wasnt as loud as it usually is. So i let it idle for about 30 seconds or so and gave it some gas. I got back on and put it into first gear and it just bogged down immediatly and then right as it stalled it backfired a little bit. Not to loud though. I tried starting it again and there was hardly any compression. I am possitive it HAS to need rebuilt but when me and a friend took the head off to see there wasnt anything wrong with the piston itself and we felt around for any imperfections and there wasnt any. Then we looked at the underside of the head where the spark plug comes down in and it looked a little wierd like the plug was messed up. My question is could there be something wrong with maybe the sparkplug cap and that wire that it is not able to give it enough spark for compression? Becuase when the head was off i slowly pushed down on the kickstarter to see if the piston moved and it was fine and felt just the way my friends quad did. Its really bothering me as to what it could be. I really cant see anything wrong with the piston or cylinder but I have only taken the top part of the head off. The compression thing is whats bothering me. Can anyone diagnose the problem? Its a 1992 Yamaha blaster. Sorry for the very long post.

First of all, some times when you let a bike sit the clutch will get sticky and it wont what to disengage. This is nothing to worry about because it will usually brake free and be fine. Although you should check your oil level. The next thing I would do is a full throttle 4th guar run to clean out the motor. The motor could be loaded up and it would sound like what your describing, and also feel as though it has no compression. Because you live in Pennsylvania I wouldn't rule out the possibility of critters making a nest in your pipe, this will also cause the described problem.

I guess I forgot to mention that it wont start. You all seem to be refering to something dealing with it running. The head gasket looks fine and my friend didnt notice anything wrong with that stuff. I tried and push it and pop it into gear today and it seems like its going to turn over but then just as it does and puff of air comes out the silencer. I felt the inside of the cylinder wall today and there is one little ridge or something in there but someone said maybe its where the rings sit at. I dont know. I am going to get a new sparky today. I cannot see the little window for the oil becuase its down so low and my hydrualic brake line and everything run right above it and below it. Makes it almost impossible to even see the window. I think i am going to drain the oil today. What kind of tranny oil do you guys reccommend while im down at the store?
