'02 Grizz with 60" Warn Plow & Actuator
#1
I installed a Warn 60" Snowplow setup on my '02 Grizz 660 along with the Warn Electric Actuator and Handlebar Mounted Controls. On the plow itself I added those Plow Sides and a top rubber. The whole thing went pretty clean. The wiring is pretty straightforward with a hookup to the + and - side of the battery going to a relay. I put the relay under the front hood where all the other electrical stuff is next to the air intake tube. One side of the relay goes to the hot side of the ignition wire so that when the ignition is off, the actuator is disconnected. This is the brown wire coming from the ignition. The remaining wires are run from the handlebar mounted control switch to the relay.
While I was doing the electrical stuff I thought I would put a switch in for the reverse rev limiter. I mounted a nice heavy-duty switch next to the instrument panel in the lower right corner. This is an automotive type switch with a very positive pull out - push in feel. I'm not comfortable with toggle switches since they can be easily flipped unknowingly. SilverBear has good instructions on his web site, which I borrowed. Hooking into the green/white wire right next to the connector wire tie-up on the left side of the ATV. I ran this wire to one side of the switch and then tapped into a ground (- neg.) wire from my plow setup that was already right up front under the switch. You can catch the ground anywhere on the frame or go to the negative terminal on the battery.
The switch setup works great. It's a pretty positive pull to get the switch out which I like. It would be impossible for it to get pulled out accidentally. It looks OEM in its location on the dash. There is only one hitch to this rev limiter setup. You do lose the reverse light on the indicator panel since you are fooling the system by eliminating the rev limiter. I'm almost positive this can be corrected by adding a diode to the system to keep the reverse indicator light on. I don't have a wiring diagram or I would have done it already.
If anyone has a wiring diagram, possibly a pdf of it could be e-mailed to me and I can get the diode setup figured out and post for everyone. I can be reached at jackschultz@adelphia.net.
A couple of observations about the Warn setup. The plow is definitely lighter in weight than the 60" Moose. The Actuator is really quiet and doesn't seem to strain as much as my winch did. I have had plow with an atv blade on two atv's now since '95. The Warn setup seem a lot easier to raise and lower with the pulley mounted on the bumper for a double pull. It will probably save the cable also. Just to be safe I'm going to get a spare cable for that day. The handlebar controls are really nice. You can check out the photos.
