Hey everyone
I wanted to ask some different questions for ya. When you race, how do you keep your diet? What do you eat? I gotta get in shape for some serious riding, need to lose a good 20-30 pounds. What do you do?

I've been lifting weights since the age of fifteen, and I'm now thirty six years old and still lifting weights. I know my strength will alway's be there, (bench press 425lbs.) but I've added a lot of cardio to my workout and my endurance is much better. I average eight to ten miles a week jogging and I play softball during the week along with riding as much as possible. I push myself as hard as I can when I ride hitting every obstacle.
I cut back my intake from carbohydrates (pasta, bread, etc.) and I'm taking Hydroxycut before meals. I eat bananas, apples, veggies, turkey, skinless chicken, tuna, some red meat, fish, granola bars, etc. I have lost fourteen pounds in two months and I now weigh 214 lbs. My goal is 205 lbs. I weighed 282 lbs. in 1986 and that's when I decided to get in serious shape after football. I've lost a little muscle, but not much, and I feel great. Don't cheat yourself you can indulge in your favorite food once a week. Good luck.

for me, i went on the mayo diet when i got out of school. in 3 months, i went from about 275, down to 215. no carbs, all protein. but the problem is, once you get off of that, you start to gain back little by little. im 6'1, wide shoulders, good build, so i can hide it but i still want to lose a good 30 pounds and keep it off! What kind of daily diet do you recommend, any certain portion?

I'm on the beer and nachos diet. I'm not losing any weight or gaining much endurance but I still get to ride several times a month [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

Mike, the so called fitness experts say a serving portion should be no larger than what you can fit in the palm of your hand. To me that's not enough for people over 200 lbs., unless you're eating five to six smaller meals a day. I'm not an expert on dieting. I would just recommend to cut back on the carbs and read some of the fitness magazines and learn what plan will work best for yourself. There is a lot to learn from just reading all the different eating plans the bodybuilders follow. About 90% of what you eat is what you see in tne mirror everyday.
Mr45auto that's a good one! I can still pound down the brew's and nachos with the best of them. I've alway's had a weight problem, but I feel I can control my eating habits better now. Getting older and having a slow metabolism doesn't help either. Ride on.

For optimum nutrition, the modern theory IS to eat 5-6 smaller meals per day as opposed to the traditional 3 larger meals. It is hard to do, but you can use a meal replacement like a Met-Rx or EAS product for your mid-morning and mid-afternoon meals. Warning, getting serious can get expensive. Also, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Screw that up and everything becomes more difficult. As far as weight training, make sure you do lots of stretching and stay with higher rep sets (8-12) to avoid bulking up. Lots of bulk leads to fatigue and pump, two very bad things when racing. Notice how the top racers tend to be skinny, wirey little guys? The most important thing that I have found is the simplest. Stay active in the evening whether it is going to the gym, doing yard work, playing softball, working on the quad, or whatever and stay off the couch. 4 hours of TV and the associated munchies are the biggest enemy there is to getting in shape.

our biggest handicap is being American. Our eating habits are the worst. in alot of countries in Europe...they eat very light during what we call dinner/supper. Most Europians eat cheez crackers or fruit at night. it's more of a snack.
their lunch is more comparable to our dinner. that gives you the other half of the day to burn it.
be active enough, and you should be able to eat what you like. Run. it's tough to start. but it's effective. start walking. long walks. then begin running between every other utility pole. before you know it your jogging the whole way.
i've never been a fan of completly altering your diet. People always seem to revert to what tastes best for them. you need to monitor WHEN your putting food in your Yap. and become ACTIVE. on rainy days when you don't feel like jogging. Don't eat the steak that day. have the Tuna or fruit. If you've jogged. then indulge a LITTLE.
i eat what i like. just not when i like. age32, 5'11, 180lbs.
