With out a doupt the most important item you could buy right now would be a swing arm skid plate. Otherwise if you ride in any rocks at all you will bend your rear disc brake. the plastic skid protection is a joke, i bent mine on the first ride and had to spend 90 dollars to replace it. go to rockymountainatv.com and you can get the armidillo for about 60 bucks. that way you will save your self the 90 for a new disc.

Get a ProDesign Pro-Flow foam filter kit. The stock filter setup is bad, and this is the best insurance you can get for you new baby. It will run better but the main thing is NO DIRT in the motor . Remember dirt in motor BAD!!
The next thing would be a pipe. Air in air out!

After Gary's 3:
4) Regrease the axle, the swingarm pivot bearings, the steering bushing
5) Replace the front tires if you live in a rocky area.
6) Dynojet kit and a slip-on exhaust tip
7) Buy some spare parts like a front sprocket, a chain, tie-rods (just the link).
8) New Renthal or equivalent handlebars

next thing you want to add is an extended swingarm(+2)
the raptor in stock form puts out a nice spread of power but the only way to maximize the acceleration is to keep that front end down between 1st and 3rd gear
after spending thousands and thousands of dollars in mods on my raptor
(well over 15,000 at last count and climbing)i can honestly say that not a single mod i have done made as big a difference in the way i ride as extending
my swingarm
this is of course is just my 2 cents but i wish i would have done this mod a year ago....its like buying a new quad!!

Nerf bars and skid plate are a must. There is so much you can do, that I don't have the time to mention them all. I like a performance pipe and rejetting to start. Also go with the pro flow clamp on system. i have the standard K&N and I'm not very pleased with it. There is a possibility the dirt could still get in.

1- preformance pipe & pro design proflow kit ( theres alot of good pipes out there)
2- a minimum +2 swingarm (get stock extended if short on green$)
3- full skids
4- ride it like theres no tomorrow!!!!!!!!

- change oil every 6hrs
- clean & oil air filter everytime you ride ( I use PJ1 Super Tacky )
- lube chain everytime you ride ( I use Chain Wax)
- grease every third time you ride
