recently bought a 2000 Yamaha Banshee... the drain plug stripped. (not the plug, but the engine itself.)

What do you suggest I do to repair this?

Try re tapping the hole with the same size tap. If this doesn't work for you, then you may have to go the next size bigger and find a different bolt. I'm not sure but I think there are rubber plugs you can buy that when tightend with the nut the expand against the sides of the hole. Where to get those I don't know. Maybe a plumbing store. ??? Check with your dealer to see what they have. JMO

I had the same problem on mine. i had to take the motor apart. If you look in the hole for the drain plug you will notice only a few threads on one side were a channel is cast into the lower half to drain it completely. Mine actually had a crack in the chanel leading from the drain plug hole. One of my friends at a machine shop welded the hole shut and filled the channel. then he drilled and tapped it for standard 1/2" threads. No problems with mine now. I can change my oil without worrying about stripping the hole and cracking the case. But the channel is all welded up to. I might not get the last drop of oil out but its fixed.

Wont the rubber plug be affected by the oil? Won't it 'swell' ?

Hmm... I really don't wanna have to take my whole motor apart... I only rode it once =(

I was thinking of heli-coiling it, or taping it to an oversized, but... I don't know what size the hole is.. I hate metric.

Oh- btw... I see the 'notch' in the threads, but, there's also a hole on the other side... anyone know what thats for?

If I heli-coil it... these ports won't work anymore, and I just wanna make sure that it's okay.
