Blaster

My freind has been lookin at a blaster and wants to know some facts and how good it would be for him. He is 5'8 150 and is looking to do any kind of riding just not any technical 4x4 stuff. He wants to stay in the 3,000 dollar price range. Do you guys recommend it or do you think he should try and find something else.

tell him to get it if it is reasonbly priced if he rides it hard every day he will need a new piston and possibly bore every year other than that there really trouble free but im still looking for some one to beat the 11 year mark for a blaster that haas never been rebuilt and still runs!

I think a 250x/300ex is a better choice than a blaster. They are more dependable, more comfortable, handle better, and easier to sell.
Tom, I didn't beat you but I guess we almost tied. My 91 blaster had never been rebuilt. Earlier this year (11 yrs old) the engine went. Rod broke at little end, shattered piston, and cracked cases. This is where the 490 came into play.

I had a Blaster and I loved it. It has a peppy motor and responds well to mods. He will probably eventually want something with more power but the same thing applies to the 250ex and 300ex. I always see people comparing the Blaster to the 300 ex but they always seem to forget one thing...price. The Blaster MSRP is about $3,000 while the 300ex MSRP is around $4,500 - $4,800. You can put about $1,000 dollars in a Blaster and it will outrun any 300ex and will compete with a stock 400ex (not in handling though). If you don't believe me go to www.mobiledyno.com and look at the 240cc Blaster which makes 29hp which is more than a stock 400ex.

My room-mate has a blaster, it is a 2000 and has tons and tons of riding on it. he is 6' and 150 or more lbs. NO problems at all, it has been super reliable and needs nothing, still runs great. he is tall, so he is a little cramped but he really likes it. It is cool being so small though, you can pop it up in a wheelie and see right over it fine and wheelie all over the place. when he gets the need for more power......240 kit it or something. I would recommend it over a 300ex just cuz of the price difference, in stock form they are really close speed-wise, but the 300 has alot more torque. my .02 cents

I have too many projects right now. I am powdercoating one banshee frame, rebuilding a 600 katana, and other things so the 490 blaster is put on hold. You are right, it should definitely haul ***. The motor has been ported, head shaved, 40 over piston (almost 500cc), I have a 41mm carb, machined reed cage, and other mods. Most people, even ones that own a blaster, come into my shop and believe me when I say it is a stock blaster motor. They look a lot alike. Ideally, I would like to have a banshee frame to put it in, but I already have a blaster and it would look good in there. Exhaust is going to be tough to find.
Now for the real reason.....I'm kind of scared of it beating my banhsees
