Blaster

As the signature says, it is a 1984 Yamaha YZ490 dirt bike engine. Back in '80, yamaha made a 465 and then punched it to a 490 in 84. Around 86 they made it water cooled, which helped power more. Every one of these motors were VERY powerful. When it was stock and in the bike, a twist of the throttle in 5th (high) gear would yield wild wheelies. Top end with my gearing was found around 95 mph! I know it would pull the front tire at 70 mph. I can't find the exact weight of the engine, but I would say it is only about 10lbs heavier than a blaster. It has only 5 gears and no oil injection. As I said, the exhaust will be fun. The headpipe comes out at an angle, and will have to be turned back forward to miss the frame. Most of the stuff I build is for the shock factor. I love to see the look on people's faces when they see some of my projects. Here is some of the things I have built in the past five years (I'm 21 now).
Whizzer minibike -1.5hp briggs from factory -installed 360cc, twin cylinder, 6-speed, honda streetbike engine. looked good, had highwaybars, electric start, Shriner's envy
Go cart- first had 350honda, then came CB650, then 650nighthawk, and finally a twin cam 750
When the CB 650 came out off the cart it went into a lowered 250r frame- too heavy for the suspension.
225 yamaha moto-4 with a 1000cc v-twin yamaha streetbike engine. Yes, it really was in there. I wish I had pictures. ATV and bike were shaft drive, had to have custom shaft made. Had exhaust custom bent. Way too fast. Had it together about 2 weeks when it dropped a valve and I got rid of the engine.
I've done the 200s into a 200x frame and also a 250x into a ATC250r
Everyone remembers the ford pinto, right. Try driving one with a alminum headed, solid roller cammed, 302 small block in it. One of the scariest things I have built. It would haze the tires at 55 mph.
I also have a 68 ford longbed truck with a solid roller 521 big block stroker (dynoed at around 700hp on pump fuel, and have a 300horse spray on top of that). I love playing with rice burners.
Anyway, I am glad someone finds this swap interesting, since that is the main reason I am doing it. I will be sure to get pictures of this one. If I can find the pictures of the past projects, I will post them in my sig.

Okay, so you caught me. It is an 84 YZ490 topend on a YZ465 bottom. The crank bearings went out of the 490, so I found a 465 bottom to put the ported cylinder on. It has 5-speed. Why yamaha went to 4-speed AFTER 5 is beyond me. Sorry about the confusion, but it is easier to say it is a 490 because most people won't catch the difference. Anyway, I can't wait to see in in the bike.
