[1] Be sure the fuel petcock is in the 'on' position
[2] Be sure the switch on the left side handlebar is in the 'run' position
[3] Turn the ignition key switch to the 'on' position
[4] Pull up on the choke **** on the carburetor
[5] Might have to give it a little throttle [depends on the tune]
[6] Be sure it's in Neutral
[7] Kick it

is it supposed to be real hard to kick start a 4 wheeler when youre in gear w/ the clutch in? my sisters friend got one for her son and its near impossible to start that thing when its in gear w/ the clutch in(it doesnt want to turn over, really hard to kick it) is this a problem or am i a total idiot?

It depends on the clutch adjustment. One adjusted loose will be hard to crank in Neutral....if it cranked at all. If adjusted tight, It's not going to be a problem.
If I'm not sure, I put it in Neutral.
Besides, if someone is asking how to crank one....I do believe it's a safe bet that they should be in Neutral.

warriormegamax,
Even with a properly adjusted clutch, it can be harder to kick start in gear if the engine is cold. Once it warms up you should be okay. I have a Raptor and always make sure it is in neutral even with the electric start. The bike will jump forward a few inches if I try to start it in gear with a cold engine. The same was true for all 6 of my Yamaha MX bikes.
