I have a 660 Grizzly and I have a question about a noise that I keep hearing. I have about 600 miles on my Grizz and all of the sudden I started hearing this noise from my Grizz this weekend. I ride pretty hard through mud, sand, water, and such, and other than the typical problems (vaporlock, sagging floorboards) the bike has been very reliable. Yesterday, while backing up, I punched the gas a little and heard a kind of knock toward the back of the bike. It was just one single knock right when I punched the gas, there was no hesitation or slowdown, but just a knock, kind of like the gears engaging or the belt engaging. I have never heard this do this before. Like I said there was no hesitation or slowdown. I rode all day very hard without a problem. I went out today and tried to repeat the sound and was able to do it in both reverse and forward. It only happens at that split second that I punch the gas. If I accelerate slowly it does not do it. I checked both of my differential fluids which were fine and looked for any obvious problems and found nothing. Is this somthing that other riders have experienced? I am wondering if somthing is wrong and I need to make an adjustment, or is this just one of the things that happens after some time on the bike. It really sounds like somthing catching when I take off, but everything seems o.k. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Yes it does have me scratching my head. It is really strange. I can hear the click when I take off, and I can also feel a click as well. I thought maybe it was my toe strap hitting the back of the storage compartment when I would punch it, but I removed it and it still does it. I has me stumped.
Thanks

Almost all of them have that clanking sound in the rear. I think its like the driveshaft/brake area, but I really don't know what is hitting. Always happens if I jump.

Andy, Thanks for the reply. I am glad that I am not the only one that has a Grizz that makes this noise. It is funny that you mention jumping, because I usually do not do alot of jumping, but I did on Sat. We were out in some sand and doing quite a bit of jumping. It just makes me nervous because it never made this noise before. So, this is somthing that I shouldn't worry about?
Thanks.

MINE JUST STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. I HAVE ABOUT 400 MILES ON MINE. I THINK IT COULD BE ONE OF THE REAR CV JOINTS.... NOT A 100% BUT BEFORE THIS I HAD A 2001 WOLVERINE AND I LOST ONE OF THE FRONT CV JOINTS....IT STARTED OUT BY MAKING THE SAME NOISE JUST A FEW CLICKS WHEN I TOOK OFF. EVENTUALLY IT WILL MAKE THE NOISE ALL THE TIME. ACTUALLY THAT IS SOMETHING I CONSIDERED WHEN I BOUGHT THE GRIZ, SINCE IT HAS FOUR SETS OF CV JOINTS INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL 2. BECAUSE LIKE MOST OTHER OWNERS WHILE I TAKE GREAT CARE OF THE BIKE MAINTENANCE WISE, I RIDE VERY HARD ON THE TRAIL. ANYWAYS I AM GOING TO ASK MY DEALER ABOUT IT. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. MY EMAIL IS DUDDINGZ71@AOL.COM

When the Grizz first came out last summer, almost everyone heard this clacking sound. You hear it when you get on the rear brake hard too. Its something to do with that funky brake and the driveshaft to the rear. Who knows if it is harmful. I only know that mine has always done it, but I've yet to notice any problem. knock on wood too.

Still, back in the beginning, it was absolute ammo for anyone who owned a Prairie and was caught up the in the "which is better" scene.

I had actually pretty bad clinking sound on deceleration. The problem was broken or cracked exhaust pipe grommet....
Have your dealer check that out/my dealer claimed he did not hear anything abnormal,I had to tape it and take the bike to a different dealer and they fixed it.
I still have another clinking noise once a while coming from the back of the bike and that sounds like a brake cables/lever???/ noise.I gave up on that.I have 1200 miles on the bike, noise has been there from day 1 ...got used to it.

Mine makes a few small clanks on even small jumps, I haven't tracked any cause down yet. They don't sound like damaging clanks just backlash somewhere. Ohh another thought, the suspension could be topping out noisily on punching in reverse. I'm hoping to finnish with breakin this weekend and that means more air as I can get into the throttle a bit more and find more clunks.
