I ripped my cv boot and need to pull the shaft to clean the joint up and replace the boot. I can't get the shaft out of the differental! Does this use the spring loaded clip I have heard so much about? I am tugging pretty hard, but don't want to damage anything. Has anyone pull the right rear shaft off thier Grizz? Please enlighten me!!

after looking it up on the puter, i can tell ya there is a circleclip( thats what they call it) that holds it all on. it doesn't say anything about some special tool you might need, even though you might. to tell ya, it kinda looks like a universial joint clip. i wish i could help ya out more, but i have no idea on how to copy this and send it to ya. good luck, and i hope i helped out a little!

That was it. Cleared away some more Grease and found the cir-clip. After pulling the clip it slid right out.
I will post the complete process including pictures after I am done. Trying to find an automotive replacement for the boot. Read they are stronger and cheaper.

Thanks for the help!

NHGrizzly -

If you do find an automotive equivalent on the boot, please post it. I just replaced mine last week and it was $50 for one boot - insane. BTW - to get my shaft out I just jerked hard and the circlip released.

Here is the latest!!
Local dealer wants $59 for Yamaha OEM and won’t have them for at least a week.
Surfed the web and found a couple of good sites with CV boot information. (www.interparts.com) manufactures boots and has pages of application info as well as measurements.
I measured my boots (16 mm inside dia of small opening – 60.0 mm inside large opening and 83mm high). According to Interparts, BT-702 for Yamaha are (16.5x61.0x86). So I was close- not bad using a ripped boot!
The closest match is for a 83 Honda Civic Inner boot BT-120 (19x67x83). Not exact, but we are talking millimeters, so I am hoping the clamps will take care of the difference.
Honda ATV boots BT-703 are (16x61x87) so they should work also. Called a Honda dealer and they weren’t too helpful, considering this is going on a Yamaha. (In fact the guy was an A** - “Sorry, are boots will not fit other brands... and hung up”

So I ordered a boot kit for a Civic from my brother in-laws auto parts store this morning and it will be in on Friday. Don’t know what the difference will be between his vendor and Interparts. Who knows, it may work in my favor! I will keep you posted.
