Is there any way to change the gearing on a 2002 big bear 400 4x4. I want to increase speed.

Hate to say this, but i dont think there is...

If anyone would know, i am sure that they would post.

Can i ask....why do you need the speed? Why did you purchase the bigbear if speed was what you were looking for? The bigbear is geared for a "working class" quad. From the trail riding that i do, we ride with big bears, there really isnt a need for a faster bike. The trails are smooth, but all it takes is one nice hole and your off the bike. Our average trail speed is around 35-40. The bear is able to maintain about 45, so just curious the reason that you want to make it faster?

You have a very dependable and well built quad, but for speed, you might want to sell it and purchase another. The Kodiak is a 400 4x4 quad, but is auto. It will do well over 45. If i remember right...about 57-62 is the top end for that model.

Wish you the best in what you are looking for.

Might try going to a larger diameter tire. That will increase top end speed some.

Taller yes, but don't go with an aggressive tire. It will slow you down worse than the stock tires due to the weight.

Noone makes ring and pinion gear sets for ATVs because the manufacturers don't leave enough room for a bigger ring gear and because of the way all of them mount their pinoion gear bearing, it's not possible to decrease the pinion gear size.

If you want more speed, you should have bought a different machine.

My 02 Bear sounds like it's wrapped at about 35. I wouldn't even consider 45 unless rolling in nuetral downhill. I think the gearing on this machine is going to end up biting Yamaha in ****!
