Banshee Handling
#1
Hey I have an 02 400ex and am considering getting a Banshee since I just ride in the dunes. I was going to keep the EX for a while and then get a Banshee cause I thought it would be a good learning quad. I realize that it lacks the power for me to climb some hills.
I have ridden a Banshee just for a little bit, but I always hear that they handle like crap. Are they saying that when they are talking about riding trails and MX or at the dunes? For the dunes are they bad (handling wise)?
I like to play around but also climb hills and stuff, would a banshee work for this?
If I got one what would I need to do to make it handle better?
For about $5000 what should I expect to get in a Banshee?

Mostly the people that say a Banshee handles like crap are those that are pure MXers or maybe OVERLY BRAND LOYAL. It's not the best handling machine but it certainly isn't bad handling - people talk a lot of bull when it comes to this subject.
The Banshee is well suited to the dunes because it is longer than say a 400ex. This makes it better at climbing hills. It is also a little wider to which makes it slide well. In the dunes, there is probably NO better handling quad with the exception of the DS650 - that's a true dune machine.
If you get a Banshee throw some sand tires on it front and back which will widen it due to the different offset wheels you're likely to get. After that the only thing you may want to do is put a +4" swingarm to help with the hillshooting duties although it will do fine in stock form.
For $5000 you should be able to get a nice machine with all of the usual mods already on it in good condition.
Trust me, once you go Shee you'll never look back...

I don't know about "never lookng back", but I will say that the Banshee is a good choice for the dunes. Plenty of power, and handles fine for sand riding.
I will say though (since I own both) that the Hondas seem easier to turn, and throw around. The Banshee will however, give you a larger platform to build upon (engine wise).
My personal favorite is the 250R for ALL types of riding except trails (I prefer a 4-stroke there), but in the dunes, the Banshee really does shine!
For $5000.00 you should be able to get a VERY nice Banshee!
