When I was racing I think I was avg. about 20 mpg. That the ball park I used for the desert racing. That way I know how it the pit stops between. That in full throttle on desert land.
Dune are alot different. maybe cut in half?

Thanks guys for the info. And as far as facts go Quadfather, those problems were relating to the transmission on the 2001 model, which Yamaha fixed with the 2002 model. The Raptor has proven in every shoot out that is an outstanding quad, whether it be a 2001 or a 2002 model.

I can understand why you?re bitter though, but remember, it's not our fault that Honda stopped building real sport quad's

Why in the world would I be bitter? I'm just stating the facts.

I just don't see how you can say it stood the test of time after one year. A pair of underwear, yes, a quad, certainly not.

I just meant that it is going on its third year of production; the 2003's are already shipping. It's first year it was tested against everything out, and found to be a great over-all quad. During the course of that first year, some weakness were discovered, as with any first year quad, and Yamaha quickly addressed them, and fixed them for the second year run of the 2002 models. Now the 2003's are arriving, and the Raptor has matured into not only a great sport quad, but also a very dependable one at that. My point is, rather than buying a new model, such as the Z400, which is bound to have some "teething" problems, such as all first year models do, I decided to go with a quad that has been around a few years, been thoroughly tested, and any problems or weakness found and corrected, such as the Raptor. The Honda 400ex is dependable, but it's lack of water-cooling, no reverse, and lower horsepower did not appeal to me. The DS is nice, but no reverse, and not as much bottom end, as I would like. The C-dale's are very nice, but meant more for racing, than trail riding, not to mention that they cost even more. Therefore, the Raptor seamed the best choice for me. Hopefully you understand my intentions better now. I was looking for info and advice from other Raptor owners, I was not looking for an argument from someone who doen't even own a Raptor, and who has no useful information to pass along.

Thats the problems with these forums. You always get some Yahoo popping off about what you own. Yamaha people do it to.

Congrats area51! Read around on what you need first...(insurance, pro-flo, rear skid) and gather information. Yamaha makes a cheap hour meter too ('bout 40 bucks).
Pay no mind to those guys looking for an arguement.
