Well now that im in the market for a new Quad and that Ive narrowed it down to the kawi and yamy..I was wonder what evryones opinions on the subject where..You know..Likes,dislikes and PROBLEMS? I can get a 02 Grizz for about 6200 and the kawi just slightly less..I like the IRS on the Grizz but like the V twin on the kawi..So give it to me fellas..the good ..the bad and the ugly!!!

What do you want to do with your Quad? How do you ride?

I ride lots of woods trails and some mud bogs..but mostly here in NY we have heavy woods....I also do a lot of riding in the snow...

And the other ? is how much HP do these machines make..I would think the HP would be comparable but Torque would be stronger in the Twin??anyone have the #s?

there is almost no compition to the prairie 650 v-twin engine in pure torque and power. It sounds like you and me do alot of the same riding, woods, mud ..etc. etc, but the horse power of the p/650 is 32 to the back wheels and 42 with 4wd engaged.
i have a p/650 and trust me if you buy one you wont be sorry. if im not mistaked a person on this forum did his/her own little test and is now selling his grizz to buy a /650. but go to the dealer and sit and test drive each of these quads and see for your self.

hope this helps

If you want any ground clearance dont get the Kawi 650. The rear diff is huge. Very nice engine though.

Before you jump on the 650 bandwagon be prepared that there is no substitute for an IRS. I have a Grizzly and after a long hard all day ride with the 650 boys there butts are so sore they can hardly walk. Sure the 650 has a little more horsepower and torque (very small difference), they both top out at about 65 m.p.h., but the 650 ride is not up to par with the 660. Also the front shocks are weak. Just my own personal opinion and observation.

i own a grizzly, and love it.
the good...\
1.) great ride!!! you can go 100 miles, and want 100 more!
2.) power and speed. it has wonderful power and speed, and is alot closer to the prarie than most know. i have raced alot of them, and can keep withing 1 quad until top end, where i can pass. but who ever rides top end?
3.) the dash is ausome, and gives you everything you want.
4.) it muds great, and has wonderful ground clearance.
5.) suspencion is fully adjustable!
6.) holds alot of gas, and can go 100 miles on a tank, or damn close!
7.) vary nimble for a irs quad. tighten the suspencion, and you can powerslide it all day long. take a look at my pics and you can see the suspencion can handle alot!
8.) vary easy to go into and out of 4 wheel drive and diff lock! also, it is vary reliable when shifting.

the bad...
1.) floor board supports will bend if beaten to hard, but only slightly. can be fixed through an aftermarket kit.
2.) not the most water friendly quad i have driven. it will go to the top of the fenders easy, but if you go any farther, it will flood the belt drive. i fixed this with snorkles, heehee.
3.) side panels hold in too much heat, and will vaporlock your quad if you put it under to slow and heavy of a load. go fast, and there is no problem. i fixed this by simply cutting holes in the side panel.
4.) you have to adjust the lifters on this quad, after 20 hours and again after 150 hours, but it aint to bad to do.

the prarie.
1.) great engine, maybe the best made in a 4x4.
2.) super quad in sand, on open trails, and for fooling around. can wheely, but so can the griz.
3.) riding the side of mountains and so forth, it has bundles of grip.
4.) great design on the locking diffs!!! no limiter.

1.) no adjustable front suspencion.
2.) solid rear axle has a rougher ride than irs.
3.) less ground clearance.
4.) softer ride in corners, maybe a little too soft on the front end.
5.) harder to ride long distances on rough terrain.

either quad is really a must own!!! hell, i'll take one of each, lol! it really comes down to where you live and the riding you do. rocky, rough terrain would be better on the griz. fast, all out trails would be a riot on the prarie. i chose the griz couse of where i live and the irs, witch i just love. power for power, they both are tops!
good luck, and let us know what you chose!
