You might try pulling the carb & removing the bowl, spraying the entire carb with carb cleaner & blowing it dry with an air compressor. After that, gently raise & lower the float to be sure there is no binding. Notice especially the pin on the float valve under the tang to see whether it compresses & extends as you move the float. If the pin doesn't move freely in & out, you aren't getting a steady flow of fuel to the carb. Also check the gas cap breather hose for kinks.

Does it do this all of the time or just occasionally?

I'm guessing that it is the rev limiter. I would make sure that every connection is tight and secure.(around the handle bars)

all stock quads have rev limiters, and alot of newer ones have safety rev limiters for when you try and drive with the parking brake on, including the warrior. check it out like perrya and warhead said

But I think hot_shoe may be on to something too, check out the carb, if you have bought it in 98 and done nothing with it since you may have dirt or something clogging the main jet (half-full throttle) and it probably need a good cleaning anyhow.

not allstock four wheelers have rev limiters i cant think of a yamaha that has one so check your valve springs or order so good heavy duty valve springs this will stop your valves from floating up top but most likey it is a bad switch just un hook the park brake switch its right under the hood it helped mine more then you can imagine!!

The ground wire on your reverse lever switch is a noted problem.
As a fix, attach a piece of wire behind the screw that is holding the ground wire. Loop the wire around the upper frame and continue to loop going to the battery. Ground end of wire to ground of battery.

If this does not fix your problem, then coil could be deteriorating.
