Justhonda,

What are you doing with a Yamaha? Are you going to change your Forum UserName?

Seriously though, one thing that may help diagnose this problem is whether the noise goes away once the Kodiak is warm, does it stop at higher RPM levels, get louder, change frequency?

My dealers mechanic (who took almost an hour of his time to go over every little detail of my machine!) told me it is normal when first started in cold weather. I would guess it has some thing to do with the oil system.

I think the noise you are hearing is the primary clutch spinning. Mine makes a strange whirring sound at startup when it is cold, and it seems to be comming from the clutch area.
