I recently got a Z400 and in the instruction manual it says to use karosene toclean the chain

 

I use Simple Green on every bike I own & on every part of the bike. It is safe on any surface! I also use Maxima Chain Wax after every ride. I clean chain with Simple Green & a green Scotch Brite pad. Then,I ride bike to get chain hot,I put the Chain Wax on, I spin the wheel & wipe off excess lube. Then I ride bike in yard & wipe it off again. Now you are ready!

 

I use Simple Green on my Shee and PJ1 aso make a kick *** degreaser/cleaner for your bike, the chain is going to one of the first things you replace anyway, sand tears em up.
