Dirt drag setup?
#1
Does anyone here run dirt drags? If you do could you share with me your setup. I am having a hell of a time not pulling huge wheelies (without the wheelie bar). I have made a wheelie bar similar to MOOSE's, but by the time my class runs the start line is dug out and my bar is then on the ground. I then spin to much instead of getting a good bite. I would like to be able to launch well with out the bar. I have solid struts on the front, and just strap down the rear tight. I guess for right now I will just put the bar back on and raise it up pretty high, since i run tomorrow night. Wish me luck. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. BTW I am running stock tires, so any air pressure settings would be greatly appreciated as well. I hope to see those suggestions pouring in.

OK, the guy who knows the most about this subject is Themoose (He's my personal GURU when it comes to drag race set ups) Anyways, It sounds like you've already got most of the set up. The only thing I would suggest is if you can't use your wheelie bar due to the start line being rutted up, get an extension on your swingarm. I have another big 300' dirt drag coming up Labor Day weekend and I'll be running a +6 swingarm and struts on the front, I'll also be running 20X11X10 Turf Tamers on back. I'll keep you posted on this set up and how well it preforms down the track. Hope this hepls.

I've been thinking about this all afternoon.
What I came up with is
(1) Get everyone together & complain to the track management, you pay an entry fee just like everyone else & deserve a decent track to run on! I guess we have it good in Atoka, The launch pad ts groomed after every pass & the entire strip is groomed after every 8-10 passes.
(2) Try some 22" rear tires They'll get the rear up a bit.
(3) With the struts on I get on the wheelie bar very softly, you can raise the bar enough to clear the ground & may not need it with the struts.
What length are your front struts? I have mine at 11 1/2" (it's really slammed Look Here) The lower the front is the harder it is to bring it up.
(4) VelocityRaptor has a good idea on the extended swing arm
While VelocityRaptor may think I am a drag racing "guru" I've never raced dirt drags so I'm just giving you my best guess.

Thanks for the advice guys. BTW MOOSE I am running 11" struts right now, but I will be making a set of adjustable ones later. Just wanted to try them out first. Hey MOOSE did you get my e-mailed pictures of my wheelie bar? And thanks for sending me those pictures of yours, it really helped me out.

How long is the drag track? Is the remainder of the track smooth?
If so I would suggest lowering your quad. On my 250R I used an adjustable link for the rear suspension and eliminated the front shocks with a couple of solid alloy bars. It hooks awesome! This setup never lost a holeshot...
