Griz 660 Reliability Pole

Love my griz, would buy another for sure.
Problems: Blown out radiator hose (my fault). Overheated, fixed by yamaha (just put on undershield, line shield, and NEW side covers with factory vents!). Sputtering, fixed by keeping the VALVES in adjustment and keeping the bike cool.
The only thing that i HATE about the bike is that Yammy didnt put a bypass for the reverse rev limiter. Easy fix (7 bucks).
All in all, i lov the bike. The ride is awsome compared to others that i ride with and have rid'n. Speed, hands down this bike rocks. Even with the tires that i have on, and still stock as far as engine, air, exhaust....i can STILL pull-out and lead the pack when riding with the group. I ride with them all (sport-utility class that is). I am a mud king and the bike doesnt let me down.
Just so ya know, this weekend went for a ride with 5 different models...i am the one that will try ANY hole and if i cant make it....NO ONE can....lol But that doesnt say much. The last hole that i went into, no one else would even try! Sunk it up to the fenders in MUCK and the bike came to a fast STOP.

Not very happy probably wouldnt buy one again. Problems- broken rear drive shaft, bogs down in any mud hole or water ( yamaha wont fix because they dont think its a manufactures defect and its over warranty, bent rims from going down a trail with some smaller rocks on it one that flattened the tire, wont idle because the valves need adjusting and yamaha wont do that either. You dont expect to have problems like that with a brand new machine no matter how easy they are to fix. Our neighbour also bought a new grizzly and had most of the same problems such as bogging and not idleing and he had to get the valves re drilled out or something so they wouldnt stick when hot but he is still on warranty and his dealer said they may not pay for it because he got it fixed by another dealer after they said they dont know how to fix it and they knew nothing about the problem. I have had about enough of the new grizzly specially after never having any problems with the 2000 model. It has good power and is a fun machine when it is working right but thats not very often.

my sputtering happens in either hi or low range, and seems to be when under load (like climbing a hill). Mine would sputter on long and short hills either gear.
I took mine into South Valley Yamaha. They still have it, supposed to get it back tomorrow (thursday) crossing my fingers.
They were going to adjust valves, re-jet, check the floats for sure. after that, perhaps the heat sheild idea but haven't confirmed it yet cuz they still have it.
south valley yamaha tells me that dealers don't rejet anything just sell em at sea level jetting. so I think that the rejet will do me a lot of good. Salt Lake is at about 4200 ft above sea level and I often ride up to the 10,000 foot range.
I will certainly post results.

I love my Grizz 660 and would buy another one right now if needed. They are the top of the heap when it is all said and done.
No problems at all here, regular maintanence and cleaning will make a world of difference in the life of the machine.

See...IRS is the most important trait of an ute for me...so the SP700 is my second choice as a quad...but, as you said..if the VTwin Prairie came out with an IRS version....oh boy.... I'd have to give it a serious look over.
