Raptor HotCam
#2
I have the Hotcam Stage 1 along with the JE 11:1 piston. They are being installed THIS WEEK! So I can't report on results YET. But it won't be long. I WILL BE giving a FULL REPORT by next weekend for sure!
My mechanic thought it had better numbers than the Webcam 80-411. It is also a BRAND NEW cam! No hardweld (reworked) cam, so no need for a core charge or cam return.

eraptoid/raptorryan, thanks for the feedback. Let us know how the cam performs. Did you have to do any valve/spring work with this cam or can you use the stock springs/valves? Can you give me some specs for the cam?
JMC, Do you require a core back for this cam?
Thanks

Here is an email I recieved from Hotcam about their cam.
Hi David,
Our cams have only been tested with stock machines. We want to be able to drop the cams in and go with as little effort and hassle as possible. The Raptor Stage 2 cam is the exception to the rule, requiring a spring kit and possible machine work to the top of the center intake valve guide.
You can expect between 10% and 13% gain in midrange performance. The Stage 1 cam works better everywhere but is biased more toward the middle rpm range, 2500-6000 rpm, where most trail riders spend their time. The reason you have spread in power gains is because it depends on how well maintained your engine is. The one thing I would STRONGLY suggest is to make sure the rocker arm wear pads have absolutely no wear. If you can see a line in the rockers' wear pads, get new rocker arms.
As far as fuel goes, 91-93 octane fuel is OK but, we'd like to see you use a little better fuel to get the most out of the cam as possible. Always use a station that sales a lot of fuel to get the freshest fuel possible. And, please, stay away from oxygenated fuels if possible. Don't use fuels with higher than 105 octane levels, unless you're going to a higher compression ratio.
Thank you for considering Hot Cams.

Are your Raptor cams designed to work with the Raptors stock piston? If so, what kind of gains could be expected? What type fuel is required to run with it? If not, what types pistons do you reccomend? What types fuel etc.
Thanks, David
Here is a post from Eraptoid about the specs for this cam.
I only checked into the midrange (stage 1) cam.... it's the only one I'm interested in. They also have a highend race cam (stage 2).
The hotcam's stage 1 cam is as follows:
Lift: (I)335 (E)370
Duration: (I)254 (E)246
Raptor's stock cam is as follows:
Lift: (I)320 (E)345
Duration: (I)232 (E)235
WEBCAM's mid-cam (80-411) is as follows:
Lift: (I)340 (E)355
Duration: (I)260 (E)232
Hope you like....

If I did it, it would be the stage 1. I'm a bit skeered to open things up and remove my cam etc myself. I don't have the money to pay someone to do it. I'm sure I have enough mechanical sense to do what is needed, just have never done a 4 stroke before. One day, if money permits, I will take my quad to Trinity and have them put in a 686 for me.

I've been thinking about trying one of these hotcams, but I've some work done to my Raptor, and I get the impression they want you to use only with stock motors. All I have is a GYT-R headpipe, silencer, and a K&N filter and jet kit. Do guys think this work with my Raptor?
