02' Grizzly - Engine Heat Dissipation
#1
Hey gang,
I need a little advice. I have an 02 Griz that was manufactured in
June of this year. Yamaha did make some heat releated improvements
on the machine. (i.e. heat shielding for exhaust, plastic barrier for the gas tank and vented plastic on the sides. However, the underside
of the seat gets hotter than hell, particularly towarsds the front. I put an adhesive backed aluminized heat barrier on the bottom of the seat and it has made a difference. The culprit is still that exhaust pipe which runs so close to the seat and in spite of the heat shield surrounding the exhaust it still generates an incredible amount of thermal energy. Does anyone think that using "exhaust wrap" around the length of the exhause pipe could cause any engine problems for me. You know...all this relective tape is nice but if I could contain the heat at its source it would be considerable easier. I would appreciate your ideas on the exhaust wrap.
Thanks,
Mike.....Daytona Beach, Fl.

highlifter has heat tape designed for the exhaust pipe. it is a great idea on the grizzly. but, better yet is a dipping they have. if you remove your pipe from the quad, and ship it to them, for around $80.00 they will coat it with a heat holding coating, and ship it back. i have heard this is the cats a$$ to do for the griz. numerous people have told me there fan rarly run after getting the coating.
good luck!!!
