I have a question bout my bike I let a friend ride it 2 weekends ago. When It was brought back it was running very poorly, when I got it back home to wash it off and take it to dealer I found 2 holes in the case.Dealer said it would be 2-3 grand to fix back to stock I heard this I nearly fell the hell over. What would cause a bike to throw a rod or so call put a hole in the case.I would appreciate any answer on this and then what do I even do now w a brand new bike w a messed up engine?Ive been losing sleep and crying prematurley in my bell moto 5 over this 1!

Sugarhead,
I'm not a shee owner and all of my comments are pure speculation based upon my years of working on different types of engines.
Many things can cause a rod to be thrown. The most obvious are normal wear. Bearing wearing to the point that they seize or fail. Locking up and breaking the rod. Over revving the engine. Lack of lubrication.. would see evidence of it in cylinder walls I suspect. Hydraulic shock running her off into deep water while running and pumping her full of water.
Just thoughts. Whatever the cause it sucks being that a friendship may be at stake.

RIDEORDIEYZF,
Not always. With 2 cylinders it is possible for it to run on one cylinder. Not well obviously but probably even enough power to pull someone around. Recently a friend of mine poped a piston in a jet ski he had. It blew up on him 2-3 miles away from the dock. He rode it all the way back to the dock completly destroying the one cylinder, mangled the rod, all that was left of the piston were small parts around the wrist pin. Even blew holes in the case.

That sucks, I dont really have any advice for you. But I will tell you everytime one of my bikes has been wrecked or damaged, it has been done by a friend. I dont like to let just anyone ride my machines.
I have one freind that I trust, he would take care of any problems if he caused them. Others I just dont trust. If they did not have to pay for it, they dont feel responsible to take care of it.
Sorry I could not help you out.

It was my Friends,um how should I say this He has guardianship over 2 kids, the 1 kids father put him out and the other brother, they were both related, they lost there mother to an OD.Well my bud has a place in the woods in VT,I had 2 bikes, oter bike was in the shop.I figured trying to be a nice guy and not take 1 bike and tearing around and being an idiot I took all 2 to share w the 19 an 14 year old being when I was young ans saw kids tearing around on bikes broke my heart knowing I couldnt ride 1. It was the 14 year old riding it,my friend an I think he rode it in 3 gear at like 80mph.I saw him going to fast in the curves so my bud told him to slow down an keep it in 3 gear. That didnt mean go as fast as ya can in 1 gear tho!It was overheated, coolant on the brake lever, plastic melted, running on right cylinder only.no coolant in over fill, next day I took out plug it looked like some 1 coated the left plug w antiseize and it had water droplets on it,I switche dplugs still nothing only 1 side firing.WHen I had older bro kick it noting came outta the hole.It wa sonly when I got home I found te hole in the case.It was mixed at 32:1
