Well consider this:

What about the 16 year olds driving cars that wreck and push up insurance?

What about the drunks who drive their vehicles and dont even know what state they just went through?

What about littering from a car? Busting telephone poles? Causing death to others? Damaging buildings? Property? Homes?

What about unsafe automobiles with defects including tires?

What about those cars that JUST made it through inspection on crash tests, that you have no idea about?

What about people not wearing seatbelts? Why dont ya cover a crash without a seatbelt then ban driving altogether?

I dont even want to hear about the atv bullshit! They can never do much about it. The only way they can is if the next atv guy says " oh well, its in the other state, wont hurt me" thats where the problem will be. Join together and be heard, dont let this crap ruin it for ANYONE.

Kids and atv's.

One simple truth:

You cannot legislate common sense

We need fewer laws, not more.

I watched a kid last night skid on his right knee on the asphalt in front of my driveway. Must have skidded 3 feet. He was cryin', couldn't walk, etc. I remember how many times I skidded out on my bike. Youch! Or fell out of a tree, jumped off a cliff into the water, or was hurt from playing contact sports. But I also learned how to drive at 9, operated backhoes, bulldozers, dump trucks at 11. All very safe, all supervised, all very serious. My whole family learned the same thing, and we all worked together.

Tell a farmer that his 15 year old son running a combine on a 1000 acres that he can only ride a 90CC quad. Then tell him that you want the laws changed so that he can't even ride that until he's 16. It isn't about age, it is about experience, training, supervision, and maturity.

Then they better legislate that you must be 16 to operate a lawnmower, riding mower, weed eater, hedge clipper, saw, drill, sander, and then maybe go all the way and include scissors as well. This is absurd. Parents have always taught their children to respect dangerous things.

Tell these guys to go and work on the obesity epidemic, smoking, or heart disease as it will kill alot more people than ATVs. I guess that ATV's get more press......

Amen
I think if someone is too stupid to not walk out into oncoming traffic, then the laws of natural selection are taking place!!!

The real problem is not the machines, but the people operating them. The parents displayed in the news article are the same parents that open the doors in the morning and don’t see their kids until lunchtime and then send them back out until supper. I have two kids and they are both responsible enough to ride an ATV but living I Michigan they are not allowed to ride an ATV until they are 12. Even when they do turn 12 the allowable CC is so small that they will be too big for the bike.
I agree with having operators under the age of 16 take a training course but at the same time they need to be accompanied by an adult. If kids were allowed to ride at an earlier age with their parents they will learn the do’s and don’ts of trail riding, if they are not allowed to ride until they are 16 they will not have the experience to handle the machine. Let’s face it when I was 16 I wanted to ride with my friends not my parents, and I am sure it’s still the same.

Just this week I had someone say to me “My neighbor asked me how do I feel about how dangerous it is for my son to go in to space, I told them I would rather him go into space than ride a dirt bike” My comment back was I have been riding for over 15 years and this is the first time I have broken an bones, but I have been in 6 car accidents, Broke my leg wrestling, broke both my ankles and have bad knees from running, and dislocated fingers playing touch football, life is dangerous.

Another thing that bothers me is the they used numbers to show how dangerous ATV’s are, The numbers show that X amount of injuries accrued over a period of time. OK fine Yes the machines are dangerous, But is’ ant any sport what about pedal bikes, Football, and CARS. What are the fatality rates for all other sports?

If you play any sport your going to get hurt, Hockey players get their teeth knocked out, Football players get their backs broken, baseball players throw their arms out, shoot you can get hurt playing Golf.

Just my 2cents

rennym,

Well said.

I was always tought in school that age DOES NOT signify maturity. The term "ACT YOUR AGE" does not apply to ANYONE. Look at MTV's Jack *** for example...I know plenty of older people that still act like they are in highschool. Age DOES NOT signify maturity.

I dont want to ackowledge this. every time i do something the govt wants to shut it down. Yeah kids get hurt on quads, kids also get hurt playing baseball and skateboarding. Imagine being 15 510 180 and having to ride a 90cc quad. Parents, groups, and politicians are too nosey. Stay The F*ck out of peples business.

and to require manufacturers to refund consumers for adult-size ATVs bought for use by children under 16.

This is a direct quote from the website posted above by blaster master.

So, does this mean because my quads were all purchased for my 5 year old son I can get them payed for???

That has to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

What's up the Federal Govorment is trying to pass a new law?? My mom told me.

In my opinoin, how can they tell us that we can't spend our own money.

Or like my doctor said to me today after I was getting my cast off my broken arm, "the govorment isn't going to tell me what I can do with my kids on my property" I think it's Bulshit.

It's Bullsh1t that's all it is. We need to be writing our congress men.
