I went the "I'm too cheap to buy aluminum ramps and I'll make my own" route. They worked good for about a year. Then one day I was loading my old 400ex into the truck after riding at my uncle's farm, and snap! One of the ramps broke! The quad and I tumbled backwards, I was not letting go of my brand new quad....so I took the impact on my back with the quad on top of me! I was even still in the riding position....I laid there for awhile in this position, and gently laid the quad down on 2 wheels and the handlebars. I wanted to just lay there and cry! I pulled the rock out of my back(literally, I have a nice scar to prove it), and rolled the quad over, walked it down to my uncles barn, and headed for the hospital. BTW...the quad was unhurt! LOL

I hated having to load my ATV into my truck. It always felt like I was going to lose it while going up the ramps. Until someone showed me the ditch load method. Back your trucks rear wheels into a drainage ditch and then load your ATV. The tailgate of the truck is only about 6-8 inches off the ground. Works great.

OR you can set your trailer to act as a ramp for the truck, like i did.
Ever see the Army load tanks on rail cars? same principle.
Rear ramp hinged to back of trailer, as is the front, which tips forward.
I just lower the tailgate, lower the front trailer ramp onto it, lower the rear ramp as well, and ride the blaster THRU the trailer and right into the truck! Close the tailgate, close the front ramp on the trailer, and ride the raptor into the trailer. close the rear ramp, ans we're ready to go. and no bulky ramps to mess with either, as they are part of the trailer. nothin' special, some 1x6's for slats,2x6's for ramps, bolted together, hinged, and painted wtith some extra ceiling paint i had....all on a $200 Fred Meyer trailer kit. and its been all over the NW.... works great.
If you are quad poor, it's sumthin to think about. i'll bet a big utility quad could tow that trailer too!

My son had a Nissan P.U. and has the Sport. He had the great idea of putting the Sport in the P.U. Well the Sport won't fit between the wheel wells so he decided to give it some juice. Over the wheel wells and thru the back glass, as his girlfriend and I LOAO. He says he was going to put in a rear slider any way. Also let a freind borrow my 6'6" ramps to bring his Sportsman over for a much needeed right rear drive shaft. Didn't figure he'd try to motor it into the truck with only three wheel drive. front came up, pivot left and I have a new set of ramps..........

Reading these stories reminded me of a good one that happened to a friend of mine a number of years ago. This guys name is Bill, he is slightly mentally challenged but not too bad. It was snowmobile season, he had a sled, John Deere I believe, Liquifire. He also had an Olds Cutlass and of course a tilt bed trailer to haul the sled. This particular time he was attempting to load the sled on the trailer, now picture this. The trunk is open on the Cutlass, Bill is trying to get the sled on the trailer but spins out several times before getting it far enough on, soooo he gets quite the running start this last time and being he has never had lightning quick reflexes (his nickname actually was "Lightning"
he gets on the brakes a little late, overshoots the trailer right into the trunk, both ski's sticking through the back seat. I've never laughed so hard in my life, unbelievable. Only Bill could have pulled this one off and he did it in fine fashion.
