I am thinking about buying a new Warrior. I will admit I usually buy Honda but I really like the warrior. Is their any promblems that this machine has and how does it run and handle? With a pipe, K&N power kit and a set of holeshot tires, what is the speed of this machine!

If you get Dirt Wheels magazine they have an article about the 2000 Warrior in April's issue

I have a 1999 Yamaha Warrior and I really like it. It has excellent power and acceleration. I have to admit though it is a tad bit heavy but you get use to it. It jumps really well. Nice and stable. I would say it has good handling not the best but suitable enough for me.

yes, there is a problem with most warriors, the timing chain sprocket bolt likes to back out, messing the cam, casing, up do to slack in the sprocket, the chain breaks and might hit the chain guide mount in the case and break it, and shear part of the cam off. top speed with 20 inch tires is about 55 mph with stock sprocket. It is awsome with a .390 cam and a 10.25 piston with stock bore. Handles decent but for a long jumper needs work shocks. My exhaust valve just broke and but a whole in the center of the piston and messed up my head. I am currently looking for a head to rebuild my motor. ps. i have 20 inch scorpion tires with 14 tooth front sprocket and that works very good for mid sides tracks, 15 tooth is excellent for top speeds.

My 98 Warrior ran 63mph at 4000' elevation on a level gravel road verified by an eagle explorer GPS. I havent ever heard of cam bolts backing out but mine hasnt been messed with and I bought it new. I have done some handling mods which have helped tremendously ( All track rear tires, steering stabilizer, works shocks about $500 total) All said I'd probably buy a 400EX or Banshee if reverse wasnt a factor. I've been spoiled by the electric start and reverse on the Warrior and know when I buy a quad without I'm really gonna miss it. I use the reverse gear every time I go out. Sometimes you really need it. The power delivery is nice and smooth and not overwhelming. You can make huge performance gains with a few mods totaling under 50 bucks. I'd reccomend a Warrior for anyone who wants a nice all around quad for recreational purposes. But for serious cant pass me power though you need a Banshee.

Sometimes the bolts will come out of it because of the large displacement. The only time I have ever heard of it happening though is when someone works on the head and doesnt use a thread locking agent such as loctite. Hey 1warriorblown the same exact thing happened to my Quadsport 230, and it costs a lot to fix it.

Hey y'all,
I have a 1996 Warrior and I really love it!! Sure I would rather have a 400EX, but I like my Warrior a lot. The only complaint I have(well actually there are 2) The front shocks are really not that great. If you jump a lot then you will wanna get works shocks. Last weekend I busted my front right shock near the bottom!! Other than that I think the Warrior is a great bike.

Not saying all cam bolt will back out but it is something to keep your eye on to save you money in the long run.

I think the Warrior is a great all around quad. I've never heard those reliability issues. I ride with a guy who has a '91 never worked on till a few weeks ago. It has been punished BADLY from day one and is just recieveing the 1st set of new bearings etc..

It comes in 4th to the Banshee, Scrambler 400 2x4 and 400EX in speed. 4th in handeling to the 400EX, Mojave, 300EX. And #1 for a shifting, all around trail quad. I really can't say enough about reliability, easy ridin' two, and ease of operation in all aspects on the trail. That's not bad for such a wide range of comparsion on a 13 yr old quad.

I would say to get works shocks at least for the front, although I have pulled some cool 3-wheel doughnuts with those weak front shocks.
