Dont do it! the lower end wont last on your engine! I've seen people with Mustangs do this and destory there engines! a stock motor cannot handle that much power! The big 3 didn't design or build there engines with that in mind, unless they designed it for that purpose like the Lighting or Supercoupe! They cut every corner they could on cost to make it as cheap as possible, and I mean cheap! I here the V10 has camshaft problems and the 7.3 Powerstroke diesel wont last as long as a normal diesel because of the turbo!I had a 99 F250 Diesel and I was always standing on the gas to get out of everyones way and I was told that if i keep driving like that it wouldn't last! call me crazy but the Heavy engine guys at work put reman engines all day long.

If you mod the motor on the Dodge you have to mod the tranny as well. Stock auto trannies don't do well with over 600 pounds of torque. And the stock clutch will go on the 5 speed at the same power level. Even if you put a 502 with a blower in a gas burner it still wouldn't have the torque of a modded diesel. I have a friend with a whipple on his 2002 Chevy with the 5.3 engine and he has had good luck with it. But in order to get everything right he took it to Superchip and had them reprogram the ecm at their facility on a dyno. He has ran 13.58 at 101 mph with it and the rest of the truck is stock. King has the right idea though. If you can get an intercooled setup it will work even better. My current setup with the Cummins has 642 foot pounds of torque. After I change trannies and upgrade to a hotter fueling box and different injectors I will be in the 800 foot pound range. If you get a gasser in that range it won't be on pump gas and it won't be very streetable. Which is another reason for the intercooler if you live in a warm area. You will get detonation with a blower if your not careful. Oh and I've seen Powerstrokes that have been modded run 300,000 to 400,000 miles just like the Cummins engine will in the Dodge. I'm waiting to see how good the Duramax is going to be on engine life as I would like to trade my Suburban in on one and have a 2 diesel household. 19 + mpg and power to spare along with twice the life of gas engines convinced me.

The Ford Lightening has the 5.4 engine in it and it wasn't really redesigned for the blower. Ask around and you will see that a bunch of them have lost crankshafts. My buddy with the whippled 5.3 went through 2 engines on his 2001 Lightening before he finally had enough and got rid of it but he was racing it like he does his 2002 Chevy also which probably didn't help it any. His Chevy has made it more miles with the blower than the Lightening ever did. And he is a Ford man. He also races a stroked, supercharged, and N20 injected Mustang that hasn't lost a crank yet but it is the old style 302 type engine and not the new OHC motor.

Thanks for all the info. King do you think they may have improved the allignment by now??? Or are they not even aware there is a problem. The place in Vegas that does the Whipple's has been doing it for over 10years and "claims" to never had a problem. My truck has a tranny cooler on it now. Do I need to upgrade???

Raptorryan, I can give you the guy I'm talking about's email if you want it and you can ask him about his install. He installed his own on the 2002 5.3 Chevy and I would think it would be about the same as the 6.0 engine. Popular Hotrodding's current issue and the next following couple of issues are doing a writeup on giving the 6.0 more power.

Those are some pretty low RPMs, you must have highway gears in that thing. Swap out those gears and you will have alot more towing power.
