On my last outing I noticed a little backfiring on my '02 Grizzly. It wasn't overly loud, but I haven't noticed on trip before. There is only about 12 hours on the machine. Has anyone else had this problem? Or am I concerned about nothing?

During a group ride at the Wallace Idaho ATV Jamboree a new (ish) Grizzly backfired everytime we came to a stop, sounded like a gunshot! Scared the @#% out of me the first couple times as I was right behind him!

Just a thought on your backfiring problem, I see all of you were riding out west , the machine will run richer in altitude, unless you were jetted down, possible the exxcesive unburnt fuel in exhaust was causing this problem, I have never had a backfire on my 02 grizzly and I have quite a few hours on it I ride at about 1000 feet elevation[MN]

First thing I would do would be to turn the mixture screw out one more turn. This should fix your problem.

will this work on my 03 wolverine. r4 exhaust, pro-design with k&n,torque stuffer. I turn't the idle mixture screw out a half of turn. It doesn't seem to backfire now but when in neutral & give it gas while looking at the exhaust, when you let off the gas you see a small blue flame exit but it does not pop. Is this normal or am I harming anything????
