Need help from you Yamaha Dealers???
#1
Hi Guys....
As some of you may know, my Banshee has been sitting at one of the State Police barracks for 8 weeks now.
The story changes every time I talk to them, and now I'm on the verge of seeking legal action of some sorts, however first the State Department of Motor Vehicles are doing an investigation on the Police.
Anyway, it's a long story so for now I will spare the details.
The other night I was talking to the cops again and he was rambling off about some hair brain idea that he had. He also said that my ATV was a year 2000 model.
When I first bought the quad I ran my VIN# on here and from what I found out, it was indeed a 1998.
I have a lot of other mis-information from the Police on this case, and I am looking for something else to add to the list.
My VIN# is JY43GG0301C016273...Can anyone DEFFINATLY confirm what year this is???
If I went down to my local Yamaha dealer do you think he would give me a signed statement saying what year that VIN# matches?
Also, one other thing just to make you laugh. The cop said, "It looks like there was also some parts swapping done because the serial # on the motor DOES NOT match the serial number on the frame".
Of course it doesn't fool!
Thanks guys.

Wierd....That's the # of my Registration, but it's also the # the cop read off to me the other night.
Maybe it just looks like a 1 on the frame...don't know what letter it could be though. How many options are there?
Thank you.

Your 10th digit is the numeral "1"
VIN identifiaction changed beginning in the year 2001. Instead of letters, they use numbers.
EX: "1"=2001 , "2"=2002 , "3"=2003 , etc
Your Banshee is actually a 2001 model.
If it was a 1998 model, the 10th character would be the letter "W"...which isn't even in your serial number at all.
All you have to do is give this number to your Yamaha dealer. He can enter it into Yamaha and have a print out in minutes with a complete vehicle original sales record along with identifying what it is. It will also show the name of the original owner who purchased the machine new.
Dealers do not charge for this and you can take this info to the Police or DOT.

Wow...Something fishy is deffinatly going on Man.
My Banshee has '98 Plastics on it, so something happened somewhere. It does have a 2001 Seat on it though...I just figured that they bought it somewhere.
I was wondering why the frame was in such good shape when I bought it...almost like it had never been trail ridden before.
So I basically own a Frankenstein quad.
Unfortunatly I don't have a title for it...Here in VT we don't have ATV titles, but the dealer gives an official looking bill of sale when they are purchased (which I assume would classify as a title). The only thing is, you RARELY see that paperwork because just a hand written bill of sale is all you need when buying something. I do have a registration though, but that doesn't say anything since it was generated from my Bill of Sale.
One other question...Can you tell the year of the motor by the # on it? Or is there any way to tell what Motor # came in that frame?
Thank you very much for the help.
