what is to become of the YAMAHA BANSHEE?

I think Bombardier will eventually go to a 4 stroke in their sleds. Take a look at Honda's new 4 cylinder 4 stroke turbocharged Personal watercraft. It has 165 horsepower in stock form. And the engine is a fairly compact package. HMMM Wonder if that would fit in a quad frame.LOL That would make an interesting dune machine.

Remember that this 2006 rule relates to the PRODUCTION of 2 strokes and no their use (yet). The Banshee will be around for a long, long time. My concern is if the riding areas start banning 2 strokes then we are going to have a problem.
Either way, 2 strokes are out and 4 strokes are in.... At least the 4 strokes are getting to the point where they can produce reasonable power. Personally, I'm not holding my breath waiting for a clean burning 2 stroke I doubt it will ever hit market in ATVs.

OK once again there is no repeat NO ban on 2 strokes! It is a new emmisions law and as of now 2 strokes will not pass! also most MFG feel it is to expensive to produce a clean burning 2 stroke. Mar is correct in saying that Bambardier is going to keep useing 2 strokes for a while they spent a lot of money on the tech. I think they may eventualy have to switch.

Federals are calling for a 75% reduction in Hydro emissions for the 2006 engines and they are going to be even stiffer in 2010. Direct injection is the only answer for the 2 stroke engine to attain this and it usually adds 10 to 20% to the cost of the engine. The best thing is none of it applies to existing machines. FOR NOW!!!!!!

2006 a bike can only produce 2 grams per kilometer traveled of hydrocardons and oxides of nitrogen and 25 grams p/k of carbom monoxide.
A direct injected 2 stroke with catalytic converter or double burn combustion chamber could meat these standards but the cost, weight and power loss make is unlikley any EPA legal 2 stroke will be produced for a motrocycle.
The ban is for bikes produced after 2006 and only includes trail bikes play bikes kids bikes and quads not compatition (10 inches or more suspension travel and more than 50cc) bikes. I do not think any quad as of now is considered compatition only though I am not sure. And yes it does include riding them, If your bike was made before the ban start date you will not be affected if it was made after and you are caught riding on public land (you can still ride on private land) you will be fined.

On a last note the 06 rule will mean the dirt bikes have to meat a standard that is twice as tight as a street bike. Why mention this? Well how many street bike do you see w/ 2 strokes? 23 years ago they were king and wouldn't a 2 stroke street bike smoke the crowd now?
That is why I do not think you will see any new clean 2 stroke dirt bikes. That is only my oppinion and I could be way wrong so call me a dumb a$$ if you must

zookyridr, if you want to know what it would look like, dig up that april issue of dirtwheels. the 750 triple cylinder they pictured would probably be a lot like it
