MY MAXIMUM SPEED
#1
Well I went out today and did my first top end speed run since my newest mods... I ran 82.5 mph on the Trail Tech computer. My gearing is 13/41, "slightly" geared down from stock.
It was quite a scary thing to do on pavement with all terrain tires. At that speed if you move the bars a half inch to an inch ~ you're going down!!
Anyone else know their top end speeds, per GPS, Trail Tech, radar, etc?????
...and most peeps with a TT will testify for their accuracy.

I was running my everyday tire, my 20/11/10 Shredders. That is another reason why the bike was more "grabby" to the road, with that completely flat profile. If they would have been more rounded (kinda like the stockers) I think they would have rode alot smoother actually, on the pavement.
Holding the throttle pegged for sooo long, making sure that the TT has leveled out and not really gaining anymore.... really was a rush. It was a ~ "flirting with disaster" rush!!
Now that it is done and I know what it'll kick out, I don't believe that I will NEVER do that sh_t again!!! YOW!

I dont know how u can say going that fast for that long is scary. I love doing it on my Banshee! Its such a rush and really fun to boot. I like to keep it wide for like ever on those ever lasting dirt roads in manistee. Its the funnest. I have my shee geared for top end, and on dirtroads, I can ride at the tip of the powerband very easily. I know at the very least I am pushing 85, especially with 22 inch tires on it.
Fun fun fun till my daddy takes the Shee away.. lol

I had a friend follow me for almost 3 miles on pavement a couple of weeks ago. He was in a 2001 Ford Ranger. He said the speedo sat at a consistant 88 mph. This is with stock gearing and 22" tires (but they actually measure about 20"
on the "stock" banshee. It has pipes, reed mods, air box mods, and was running great. I like to figure in approx %5 differential, so I am actually saying it was around 83. Although, from experience on street bikes, I know that at 80-85 my cheeks start flapping in the wind, and they definetly were doing that.

Paved road + stock gearing (13/40) & stock tires.
----- GPS Verified -----
Top Speed on my Stock 2002 Raptor = 72.6 mph.
Top Speed with Yosh Pipe & DynoJet kit (14/40 gearing) = 81.2 mph.
Top Speed after my Trinity 686 Upgrade (13/40) = 79.8 mph.
Estimated Top Speed of Trinity 686 (14/40 gearing) = 87ish
I too have the Trail Tech setup and it is accurate. My only concern about the accuracy on the Trail Tech would be on the top end. As you know the way the the speed is determined is based on the time interval as between the magnet passing near the the pick-up lead. The outer circumference of the tire and the pressure are the determining factors. And if you have ever followed anyone on an ATV on a road at high speed you will notice that the tires will skinny up and grow taller because of the high speed spinning. This will change the circumference of the tire and will affect the ratio that is set into the Trail Tech computer. As you mentioned, these tires aren't meant for that kind of speed on pavement and the side walls pull in.
Believe me I know. When I installed my Yosh pipe, I went out on a top end run and mine told me that I was doing 87 mph. I was thrilled!! The next day at work I was strutting around talkin' Smak to all my Canonball & Banshee buddies. Only to find that somehow I had switched from the "Bike 1" setting to the "Bike 2" with a different ratio and didn't know it. Man did I have to eat some serious crow for that one!!!
Don't get me wrong, you were going DANG FAST, this has just been the experiance thatI have had on my bike. But you may want to think about a GPS, THEY ARE GREAT! Walmart sells a yellow, waterproof one for around $119.00.
It feels like your doing about 110 mph doesn't it??

Quads and pavement don't mix. I've had mine in the upper 60's going up a slight hill and wasn't feeling comfortable, one wrong move with the handlebars and its all over. I was cruising along and remembered, I have an 01, I quickly thought of what might happen should my tranny lock up . I shut it down and went back to a more comfortable desert terrain.
