Raptor HELP???????
BONEHEAD!!!!
You could have walked across the corridor to tell me that.
I want to use the current axle carrier. I want to know what size, make of bearing. Surely I can source bearings myself and replace them without having to go back to Yamaha.
OK mabe I should give you a break since that was only your 2nd post................
Welcome Nerfherder...........whats that, a PORNSTAR name or somthing?

Raptor HELP???????
I called a local Bearing Warehouse when I replaced mine. I just gave them the numbers off of the stock bearings and they matched them up to a set of *** bearings for me. The seals though, need to be purchased through your dealer. Chaicago Rawhide is the maker of the seals and they are Yamaha specific, so?
I have had the *** bearings now for about 14 months and they are holding up better then the stockers did and were a bit cheaper too.
Oh, getting the stockers out of the carrier, what a PAIN IN THE A$$!!!!

Excellent.......
That news confirms the *** bearings. I can get them fairly cheaply. I just have to source the seals.
I think this is going to be a problem for me.
You say it was a big job replacing the bearings in the carrier!!
Yamaha will charge me $100 for the job.
Is it that much of a hastle?
Should I just go to Yamaha and save myself the irratation
Thanks.

No, do the job yourself. I was just giving you a heads-up on getting them out. It is a pain, but not $100 worth, not to me anyway. LOL
The seals I could not get any where, but the dealer. AS I mentioned, Chicago Rawhide is the mfg of them and they are Yamaha specific. They were pretty cheap though through the dealer, suprisingly enough!

Thanks.....youve been a great help
That company you refer to must be a US company. I would have to investigate to see if we have a local dealer here,
but since you say that Yamaha sell the seals relatively cheaply, I'll buy them and do the work myself.
The main thing is that I want a better quality bearing.

Raptor HELP???????
I didn't reply earlier because I am not sure if they make them or not, but check with Temken bearings. These are the best style bearings that I can imagine going into the axel housing. They are a tappered roller bearing, work great for side loads, like on the axel.
Swytak is right about taking them out what a pain. Find yourself a CHEAP socket the size of the out bearring race and use it to tap the bearring out square, it saved me alot of headache.
