How is the Warrior?
#1
i plan on buying a new fourwheeler next summer, and i'm looking at the warrior. i mostly ride slow and fast trails, mud, shallow water, gravel roads, and occasional paved roads. how does the warrior perform in these conditions? i need reverse, and the warrior seems to be a good quad. what do you guys think? thanks

DirtDevil86,
The warrior will certainly do all what you asked, but I would save my money and for about six to seven hundred dollars more you could get the new Suzuki 400 or the Kawasaki 400 and be a much more happy dirtdevil.

this would be my first sport fourwheeler. i dont know if i could handle the Kawasaki/suzuki. i was hoping i could find a good used 2001 or 2002 warrior next year to learn on. then maybe step up to something more powerful.
also, i noticed the warrior has low ground clearance. would i end up getting stuck in the mud all the time with it? thanks.

The Warrior is a good all around quad.
slow and fast trails : The Warrior will perform good on the slow trails, and it also performs fine on the fast trails but compared to some quads it lacks handling and suspension. For recreational use it's fine though.
mud : The Warrior seems to be as good as any other Sport quad in the mud. It's really hard to rate it there.
shallow water : The Warrior does fine in the water. My buddies love the play in the water and one of them has a Warrior. Check out this shot CLICK HERE !
gravel roads : Again, the Warrior is fine, but it depends on what quads are with you. If you ride with Utils or Small sports like the 300ex or Blasters the Warrior will be leading the way, but if you line it up with Banshee's and Raptors it will fall behind.
occasional paved roads : same thing as the Gravel roads.
To give better answers...what other quads are you riding with or thinking of buying?

the quads i ride with are: 2 beartrackers, 2 recons, 3 big bears, wolverine, scrambler 500 4x4, and one raptor.
i am also thinking about the wolverine, because i really like the one that my friend has. they have an okay top end and are 4x4. do you think a wolverine would be better for me?
from my experience in watching my friends raptor in the mud....it is always getting pulled out. is it that way with other sport fourwheelers? thanks

DirtDevil86,
Your switching faster than a TV remote.
If the Raptor is getting stuck your going to be in there with him on the warrior.
The wolverine would be better in that situation.

i'm "switching faster than a tv remote"? whats that supposed to mean? lol. anyway, if i'm going to spend the money i want to make sure i buy the right quad. how fast does a wolverine go? top speed is important because we spend a lot of time on gravel roads between trails. out of the 20+ miles we rode yesterday, 7 or 8 miles were on gravel roads. thanks

I had a Wolverine and then traded for a Warrior. I like both of them but didn't want fulltime 4wd and didn't want to wait for the Highlifter unlocker. The Warrior is a good all around machine. Sure everyone will say get this or that but for overall bang for the buck and reliability it can't be beat.
I ride with Raptor's, DS650's and EX400's and go everywhere they go. Sure they can go faster but in the woods and tight trails like I ride you can only go so fast and since I'm not racing it was they bigger machine were just not needed. I also like the Warrior as it has a nice low seat height and does not feel tippy. Overall it has been a great machine for the dollar.
I'm sure you find a great deal on a Warrior like you are looking for. It will beat a great machine to learn on and perfect your skills. So many get the biggest and baddest machine and then in no time wreck the thing. One of the two guys that has the DS560 is scared of the thing and really should have stayed with his Scrambler. Our friend got one and he had to have it but now in two weeks he has dumped it twice.

Judging by the quads you ride with, the Warrior would probably have a hard time keeping up in the mud (with all except the Raptor) just because the Utes have more ground clearance and naturally bigger tires, not to mention the ones that are 4x4's.
In a straight line you would do fine against that Utes that you ride with, but the Scrambler and the Raptor would beat the Warrior in a Race (start to finish). This would come to play on the roads. However, I'm guessing that you won't be racing all the time anyway so the Warrior will do just fine.
On the trails the Warrior would outhandle the Utes and probably the Scrambler as well (so his power advantage wouldn't matter). The Raptor would be your only competition, but once you got into the rough stuff again I'd imagine the Warrior would be a little bit better.
So with that said....The Warrior is a good all around quad....maybe even the best all around quad in your riding group (along with the Scrambler, but more sporty). You aren't going to beat the Utes in the Mud, but they won't beat you on the road or when playing around. You also aren't going to beat the Raptor on the road, but in the mud and slow going rough trails you probably will. Either way you won't be "the best" at anything with the Warrior, but you may have "the best of both worlds".
As for the Wolverine, in my opinion the Scrambler is a better quad (NOTE: STRICTLY MY OPINION). However, the Wolverine is cheaper which means a lot. The Scramblers benefits are that they can be taken out of 4wd (without modifications) and they are a lot more powerful. When it comes to Handling I can't comment, but I'd have to say being able to put it in 2wd helps a lot. I'm also not sure which would be better in the mud but the Scrammy does have "True 4wd" where as the Wolverine doesn't. However, like I said, I'm not sure if which one is better. Tires mean a lot.
If I had to chose between the Warrior or Wolverine I would pick the Warrior but I'm more sport oriented. I play more out of the mud than in. I guess you just have to decide what you want to be better at.
